nanahanna 1 Posted March 14, 2006 Leener, I don't think you were being melodramatic at all! I think many of us don't realize how close we are to meeting our maker every single day and we should be ready at any time to stand before Him! Congratulations and hang in there! I hope to join all y'all bandsters soon! And, like you I am nervous but determined!
NeenBand 7 Posted March 14, 2006 Question for all: When can I start taking pills? For example I take Iron due to anemia, and it has to be the slow release kind. Also I take Prevacid.
PhotoNut 7 Posted March 14, 2006 I took my pills right away with no problem. I take Effexor which is in a capsule, so it disolves. I also take synthroid which is tiny. I guess it would depend on the size (yes, it does matter) and how well you are able to swallow Water now. And you're welcome for the song. *grins*
mini_me 3 Posted March 14, 2006 leener...HEY!!!! I am so glad to see you on here. These ppl's are so great(except for making us laugh when they know it hurs). I still love everyone. I am drinking a Protein shake, i hope it wont hurt me. The post op instructions that were sent to me didnt specify what all qualifies as a liquid, but it just said liquids for 24-48 hours. I am not really getting hungry yet, but my mind was telling me to get some Protein. it feels like it is passing uneventfully. Thanks everyone for the support, bups, i was stuck in traffic at 7 am yesterday. We were even late to arrive, but so was the doc so we were ok. talk to you guys later!! Alexandra 55 Posted March 14, 2006 I'm sorry I missed this; I didn't know you had posted since your surgery. Don't worry, it DOES get better, and pretty fast. In a week you'll look back and be amazed at how good you feel. Congratulations, Eileen!! Welcome to Bandland! :welcome2:
NeenBand 7 Posted March 14, 2006 Thanks again all! :-) Mini Me, I have the same question. I hope someone will answer this for us. I just had 1/2 cup of veggie broth and it feels like I ate a pot of it. Did I stretch my pouch? :-( I'm not clear on the quantities of liquids and I'm afriad of stretching my pouch! Alexra 0 Posted March 14, 2006 You didnt strech your pouch, you're doing just fine, and as for the pills question from earlier, yes you can and should take them. Try to get in 64 oz of liquids a day, you will need to take your time at first Sip sip, sip if you feel pressure or anything backing up into the back of your throat....then...drink slower, you're swollen from surgery and it takes a second for the fluids to go through. By the end of the first week you'll be drinking like a pro...
Dody 0 Posted March 14, 2006 So happy you have now got your band and are getting just a little bit better. I know when I had my heart surgery I was scared to death. I too talked a lot to God, and the surgeon held my hand and we said a little prayer and I asked God to guide his hands. He did a wonderful job of helping me out, and I think he did a wonderful job with you too. Your being scared so bad may have contributed somewhat to your almost panic attack (I have them too) and your asthma certainly didn't help things. Every day you will feel a little better and a little stronger. Ask a million questions. There are so many smart people on here that have been through the surgery (I'm not one of them-not banded yet) and they will get you through this. I read all their posts and I'm encouraged by them too. God Bless and have a wonderful recovery.
PhotoNut 7 Posted March 14, 2006 Leener and Mini - Now comes the first retraining.. sip slowly, stop when you feel full. You won't stretch your pouch with liquids, they pass through pretty quickly, which is why you don't drink with meals (when you get to that point). Skim milk has 9 grams of Protein. Mix up a shake with 1 cup of that and you'll get plenty to eat.. might take you a few meals to get it all in though. The only thing you really need to be careful of right now is getting not sick and not lifting much. So sip slowly, pay attention to your tummy and you'll know when you've had enough. Stick closely to your Dr's orders about food, and if you are unclear on any of it, call the office and ask.
NeenBand 7 Posted March 15, 2006 Thanks you Nut and Alexra for answering my questions. Actually I'm going to call the doc tomorrow. My temperature last night and tonight is 99.5. I don't know if that's niormal coming out of surgery or not. I also want to ask what was up with those sugar levels. Dody, your such a sweetheart. I just went through that with my dad. It's a rough surgery.
