so today I went for my hospital testing (upper GI, ultrasounds, chest xray). after about 45 minutes of the rad tech poking and prodding, it turns out I "might" have a cyst on my kidney and "may" need to be referred for a CT scan or MRI. the radiologist said he would just make a note on the ultrasound report to my surgeon and let him decide what to do. it was all very vague! I wonder if I should be worried.

I have a few cysts on my liver. They are from taking hormonal birth control.

First thing, don't google yourself sick :) I have done that a time or two, and went from having a benign cyst to thinking I have 48 hours to live.

Cysts on kidneys aren't that uncommon. There is a condition called polycystic kidney, but if it was just one cyst I wouldn't be alarmed. Most "simple" kidney cysts don't require any treatment and will typically go away on their own. They usually don't show any symptoms either.

When you follow up with your doctor, I would just ask the size of the cyst and if there is any cause for concern or follow-up, either with him or a nephrologist.

And as always, my disclaimer, you should always talk to your doctor before taking advice on the internet :)

I also have cysts on my liver. They are from my birth control. I was concerned as well but I would try and be as relaxed as possible.

I've never heard of cysts on your liver! I've taken birth control since a young age...should I be worried?? Will they be able to see if I do during pre-op testing??

I so thought it was going to be that you were pregnant.

They found a cyst on my kidney during a MRI. My doctor said it was nothing to worry about. He said I would probably have never known I had it if it were not for the great advances in technology. That was 3 years ago and haven't had any problems.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
