I wasnt allowed to swallow anything for 48 hrs i was on an iv and med pain drip and could suck on an ice cube if my mouth was dry but had to spit it out when it melted.

They said absolutley nothing threw the band those 2 days to assure proper healing. Id ask someone else.

And most likley you have no Fluid yet. They let your body get used to it first with no restriction because there will be swelling from the surgery.

After youve healed they will give you your first fill at a follow up appointment

I had liquid pain meds when I came home, but I think I may have only take 3-4 doses in 3 days...I just really wasn't feeling that much pain.

I cheated when they gave me Ice HAHAHAHA!! But my mouth was like the Desert!!! I was on IV so my pain meds all I had to do was push a button!! The surgern here makes you stay in Hospital over night so that may be Why.

too stayed overnight and had IV pain meds the first 24 hrs. Then they gave me liquid Vicodin. But when I got home, I resumed taking all of my other pills, just one at a time, about 5 minutes apart. My doctor told me as long as they went down, there was no problem taking them. I took so many pills, I doubt they could get them all in liquid.

Can't believe they gave you pills while still in the hospital. When they have access to so many other ways of delivery. Good luck with your recovery!

The nurse who is taking care of you is more than likely not a person involved in your operation. She would not know if your surgeon added any liquid.

As for pain meds, I had small pills, not liquids.< /p>

Sad but even in a hospital that preforms bariatric surgery the staff is not well informed on our needs and most surgeons for WLS have their own office and only use the hospital for the operation room.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
