Hey Post bandsters, Did any of you get a lot of excess skin, after the weight loss, I asked the surgeon about it, and he stated that it varies and it depends on the individual and the amount of weight loss. He also said looking at my build that I may not have any and for me to do strength training, a lot of walking and take care of my skin and give it time. By the way I have not had the surgery yet.

I had tons but thats because i was 57 yrs old, female post menopause and lost 237 lbs .. unfortunately that made me a 100% to get it and boy i got it all over but its not a major tragedy, i had extensive surgery to remove it and will have more next year .. It is still my badge of honour that proves i lost alal this weight. Mostly if u are young, dont have much weight to lose and do your exercises and look after your skin your surgeon is probably right and u wont get it .. theres no gaurantees for anyone whether they will get it or not, same as we have no control over where the weight is dropped from ..

Age, weight, exercise level, and body frame will probably determine how much extra 'loose' skin you will have. I mean it really does vary. I have seen some people who are in their 300's exercise vigarously and much of the skin bounced back. Many do have that small belly hang. I have loose skin already from losing and gaining practically half my life. I have noooo clue what I will look like when I start losing the weight. It will be either a surprise or a nightmare. Either way, I am not stressing about it because as Carolina said above "better to have sag then to be obese". And what can be a better feeling than that is to be healthy and more active :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
