Hello! My name is Stephanie. I am 23 years old and I live about 30 minutes east of Kansas City.I just went to one of the seminars for LapBand surgery this last week. I have been struggling the last 6 years with my weight. When I was a junior in High School, I got pregnant. I became very depressed and ate everything in my path. I gained about 60-70 pounds with my son. The last 3 years, I have been trying to get all this weight off, but have just been very unsuccessful. I'm tired of not being able to run around with my almost 6 year old. I have some people in my life that are truly against me getting this surgery. Mainly,, my boyfriend of almost 7 years and my manager at my job. Alot of the nurses I work with have been nothing but supporting of me. I have decided I am doing something for myself and am being completely selfish. I hope to get to know some of you all!

Welcome to the forum Stephanie.

What i would say , and have said before , is that with your current bmi of 44 i think your profile says, that having surgery is a medical procedure its not cosmetic surgery. Do your boyfriend and manager really think that its acceptable for you to have a high bmi and take the risk of all the obesity related illnesses .. is that the future they want for you. If u were borderline weight wise i can understand people being a little more hesitant to support but with any bmi over 40 u have a real medical need to intervene in your weight. Yes u could try and get this off on your own, maybe u will but many of us were great at losing weight, but our problems came when we tried to keep it off, it was almost inevitable that we would not only gain the weight back but more on top too.

get as much information as u can and talk from the heart to your boyfriend, that way u can allay any fears he has . Not sure a work manager is worth worry about their opinion, but is up to you. This is to help you ! managers and boyfriends come and go but u have to live in your body a long long time ! your son needs a long term mother not one who maybe will be in their future maybe not ...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
