Yes. I had my surgery June 13. It gets better. Some days are harder than others, but it gets easier to deal with. I still have my moments. Stay strong! Good luck.

After a few weeks I felt good. Once you start feeling great and get into your own groove, it will be good. You still have to morn your old way of life too.

I hope this helps - you are NORMAL!

Your body has been through an anaesthetic and a surgery which equals trauma. You are losing weight and going through a major lifestyle change = emotional trauma.

Hang in there and focus on the positives, if you can.

But truly, what you are feeling now is perfectly normal.

I didn't cry, but I did have some emotionally charged moments. Mine was due to the realization that I was truly addicted to food. It will pass and you'll soon be feeling good and spreading the joy! ;-)

I'm sorry but I don't see anything normal about crying after surgery. My back was killing me, but other than that I felt relieved I had finally taken the first step to better health. It never occurred to me to cry. Maybe it is just a girl thing.

It was rough for me too. the day I had surgery it was really bad. I kept crying like a baby! I thought it was the worst pain in my life. At lease when I had my children I had my kids to make me feel better.

Before pic. Maybe in a couple of month all the pain and crying will be worth.it! I had surgery June 19th.

I definitely went though that! I thought for sure that I was the only one, but I did what you did and posted here. This forum is amazing!

I had my surgery on 6/26 and it was about day 4 that it hit me like a ton of bricks.

My issue was me coming to terms that I have a food addiction and it hit me that I was saying goodbye to that part of my life.

You're doing the best thing though, you're talking about it with people who understand. You don't have to go through it alone, we're all in this together. Posting and reading here helped me the most, and I'm also reading a few books about food addiction. I'm still sad, but the support here tells me I CAN do this, and so can YOU! :)

Shed your tears if you need to, this is tough, but don't give up, and take comfort that we are all here for each other.

You are SO normal. That happens even with other surgeries. My brother had a different surgery a few weeks before I was banded. He and I were chatting and I told him about me little mini pity parties and he told me about his. Made me feel better hope it makes you feel better. You are doing just fine .

You really hit the nail on the head. The food addiction really hits home.

I had HUGE emotional issues the first month or two after surgery. Here's a link to a thread I started, lots of great advice there:

http://www.lapbandtalk.com/topic/146935-emotional-rollercoaster/

The thing that helped me the most was realizing that all this emotional up and down is OLD STUFF coming up. It's the first time in years you're probably allowing yourself to feel anything and not eat over it...

And realizing that my periods are WAYYYYYY far over into crazy land now. I never used to feel them, but I get nutso PMS now and turn into psycho b***h. hehehe. It's hugely annoying, but also at least predictable. :-)

Good luck. Keep posting.

Don't worry, you're normal. It's scary learning how to live without food as an emotional crutch. I was a mess right before and after surgery. I cried, but mostly I was frustrated, depressed and irritable over every little thing. All I could think about was what I was giving up by living the bandster lifestyle. Finally, about 2 months out I am starting to feel like myself again. I still have rough days but its a lot better. I pray, ask friends for help, and exercise when I feel bad.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
