It's America. We can all have our opinions and that is what makes US great! you don't need his support.

Most of the manly men that I know are extremely supportive. Really hard to hide the fact when you lose over a 100 pounds. I have never hidden the fact that for me the lap band was very necessary.

Once in early 2001 I was at a conference with a budy of mine and some else that I had met. I orded the biggest Rib eye steak they had on the menu. The other man could not believe that I could eat the whole steak along with all the sides that came with the steak. Unknown to me My buddy bet the man $25.00 that I could finish the steak after I while I picked up the bone and starting knawing on it the man could not believe it and pulled out his wallet and paid my buddy.

Know there is no way I can finish even the smallest steak and the manly man like it since I cannot finish my food at restaurants they can finish my food.< /p>

I really didn't tell many people honestly. As far as guys, I told one fishing buddy at work and my best friend. Both seem interested that I've lost and are supportive as far as I can tell them what I'm going through. Instead of beer I drink bourbon now and I drink it straight--not many drinks more manly than that. I think they're impressed I can lose and still hold my own :)

They won't want to be your friend when you start getting all the ladies anyway, so cut your losses. This process is hard enough on your own - you don't need others giving you crap about what you're working so hard for.

I told one of my friends (late 20's) that I wanted to get banded. When he found out I had to give up beer (not a big drinker anyways), he said "I could never do that, I'd rather be fat! (He's skinny. athletic build). But, I said I'll gladly give up beer if it means my son not having to bury me while I'm in my 40's-50's. now that I'm banded I get nothing but support from all of my friends.

Just wondering if your friends think you are a sissy because you got a lap band.

I'm finding some friends of mine think I'm wasting my time going to the gym and eating anything but cheeseburgers, hot wings and drinking beer.

I have a hunting buddy who insist on trying to feed me things I can't eat. I can eat dried deer steak and biscuits and gravy anymore. He laughs and tells me to MAN UP.

I've explained many times I just physically cannot eat that stuff anymore. I pack my own food for the hunting trips but he just ignores me.

I had one call it 'cheating' and I was like I'd rather be a thin cheater than a fat winner like you! Zing!

I feel ya Jeff. Been banded 2 1/2 years now and game meat has always been a little rough. I hunt deer, hogs, ducks and dove and seems like I can hardy eat any of it.

And with dove season starting to come up, I know I'll miss bacon wrapped dove breast and some cold beer. But that's the price we pay I suppose.

Same here love hunting and eating all different meats . I just stick to my portion size. The band has made hunting so much more enjoyable . Buddies have hard time keeping up only draw back in I do majority of setting up cause they are out of breath/ shape

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
