Cooper1 4 Posted July 4, 2012 From the posts I've read I can tell I am not the normal, just don't know what's wrong with me.I am 20 days post op today. I have had a hard time getting anything down since surgery, I was so tight after surgery I could hardly get liquids down. My Dr. took 1.5 cc of Fluid out of my band at day 10 (that's all that was in it) and that helped a little. I am still basically on full liquids and just added very runny cream of wheat and instant mashed potatoes (very runny...I can pour them) this week. I ate about 3/4 cup of potatoes the first time as It was soooo good and then I was in pain all night! So I've learned to keep it at 1/2 cup! But I don't feel good after I eat and I still can't get in the liquids I should, I'm lucky to get down a 16oz glass in a day, not including my Soup of 1/2 cup. I'm started to think I will never eat regular food again ( could not imagine eating anything solid right now) and getting depressed!I also have to burp alot! So worried the band might slip with the constant burping?? I have not vomited at all ( thank goodness!) Does it just take longer with some people to be able to eat foods? Need some words of encouragement please!

Sojourner 2,446 Posted July 4, 2012 We are all individuals, and we will heal at different rates. It may be possible that you are still healing, though from your description it does seem that you should get back in contact with your surgeon to diagnose what may be going on. Also as a side note, you should be following the post op instructions that I hope you were given prior to leaving the hospital. It's very important for you to follow these, especially with the portion sizes and the types of foods allowed. I hope you'll be feeling better soon...call your doctor!! tweetychelle 7 Posted July 4, 2012 I am almost at 3 weeks and I still get belly aches after mealtime. If its nkt feeling right then wait til you feel better. Just hold in there.
NWgirl 574 Posted July 4, 2012 You need to sip Water throughout the day. Even set a timer for every fifteen minutes and just drink an ounce.
Cazzy 725 Posted July 4, 2012 I would try some warm drinks like tea or coffee made with skimmed milk, even if u have to use decaffinated, warmth helps the band relax a little , for some people anyways, i was a long time after surgery before i could actually eat anything i just used to drink my calories with Soup and milk etc .. we all heal at different rates, i think some on here would be happy with that amount of restriction post - op just keep your fluids up and eventually the band will loosen when u start dropping more weight .. DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! 12,703 Posted July 4, 2012 I had considerable restriction even when my band was empty. My first fill my doc tried to put in 3cc and immediately had back 1cc back out because I couldn't even swallow Water. Now, I have lots of restriction and am definitely in the Green Zone with only 4cc in my 10cc band. It all boils down to anatomy- everyone is different some people do feel restriction with little (or even nothing) in their band. With that in mind, you're still healing and it's likely your stomach is still swollen from surgery. Give it a couple more weeks, stick to the post op diet your surgeon put you on, and I'm sure eating will become much easier once you're totally healed. Best wishes.
