I am new here. I had my first visit with my surgeon yesterday and have most of my labs scheduled for Saturday. I am excited, though not everything is in place yet or official so far so good. I was concerened about hitting my weight to qualify but with heavy clothes and drinking a ton of Water right before my appointment my BMI was above target at 37 at the doctor I weighed in at 230 but this morning I weighed 221. I was sure that it was going to take many months for this process to get started and that discourged me a little, but my doctor says that he thinks I will be banded in September which is fantastic! Is there anything I can do to expedite the process from those that have been through it? My pre-op program seems light compared to some that I have seen on here. I have to have 2 nutrition appoitments, 1 psych surgery clear, labs including ultrasound (all being done this Saturday) and get a paper from my doctor that documents my weight for the past 2 years and thats it. Let me know if there is anything that I can do or anything that I should be aware of to help get this thing done asap. Also is gallstones a concern? Is there medication that I can take to prevent getting them? Thanks! It's great to have a place to ask questions and get answers all while supporting eachother! So grateful to not feel alone in the process! ^_^

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
