Hey all -

Just need a place to share what's going on with me. I started my Quest to get banded in February, and things moved fairly quickly, until the psychological evaluation (I promise I'm not crazy, the woman who I was sent to took at immediate dislike to me and made things difficult to proceed, different story for a different day.)

Anyway I went in today for my consultation with the surgeon, where I basically I assumed I was going to be told that my surgery was going to be pushed back several more months until some of the jumps the psychologist put forth were jumped through.

But, apparently my surgeon is pretty fair and balanced and listened to my concerns and decided to go ahead and schedule my surgery.....

FOR A WEEK FROM TODAY! I'm totally excited but also really overwhelmed as I was not expecting for this to move so quickly. I feel like I have a lot of work to do and not a long time to do it. Also, 4th of July BBQ and pre-op diet is kinda a bummer haha.

So, yay! This is really happening. Has anyone else had an experience where surgery came up faster than they thought? How did you cope?

Some people will think u are really lucky getting such a quick surgery date, they spend months anguishing over their decisions, what could go wrong, all the usual insecurities that creep in when u are planning surgery, you have a short time to go through this, concentrate on what u need to pre- surgery and be happy u arent one who has to wait nearly a year for all those appoin tments to get lined up ... enjoy today !

Its so true with what Cazzy and Elcee said, consider yourself very very lucky. I started this journey in November. I had originally had a June 13th date, but because my insurance company had made a clerical error I was actually denied. Long story short, they fixed it and my new surgery date is July 25th.

Your so lucky! Good luck with it all! I started my process in november 2011 and have to wait a whole year for my health insurance to mature:-( but I have a date now nov 23rd... It's all gone so fast already! :-)

I was right where you were. I started my journey in March and things moved along quickly, but I was warned that setting the surgery date usually takes 3-6 weeks after seeing the surgeon.

On May 7th I went in to see him, and after our discussion he said "Okay, how about next Friday?". I of course said yes, but as I left I was like - that's only 11 days!! Then the nerves hit since it was really happening.

The feeling of - oh goodness it's really happening now - can be overwhelming. Embrace it! Less time to stress over it :)

I've been jumping through all the hoops of what my insurance asks b/c they are covering my surgery %100!!! (I know...wow!!). Since 12/11. My surg is 7/10....I still think wow...this is really happening!!! Holy cow! It happened so fast!!! No matter how much time we have to prep ourselves...when our moment comes and we are looking our future in the eyes at our defining moment....I know for me, these last 8 months flew by! Good luck y'all!

Thanks for all your responses! I'm self pay and from what I know that tends to go a lot faster than when dealing with the insurance! The downside with self pay dropping all that cashola obviously haha!

Anyway I'm excited about this and I realize that there's no time like the present especially since I've been wanting to do this since I was 18!

My surgery came up a little faster than i expected, but im glad it did. I started my paperwork last Sept 8th, jumped through all the insurance hoops ( they paid 100 % , and yes, im extremely blessed and gratetful to BCBS) and scheduled my last appt w/ the surgeon for Nov 22. After all the paperwork was explained, the Assistant said" How about Dec 27th?" and i heard my voice say "Do you have anything sooner ?" Next thing i know im being banded Dec 13th ! Surprise !!!! I was so ready !!! Im so glad i got it done, the last 7 months have flown by and im down 47 lbs ! I hope yours goes as well as mine did ! good luck !

Good for you! I personally feel like I've been having this surgery for the past 5 years off and on and when June 26 came I thought OMG this is happening like, now! I'm so glad your Dr realized the lady at the eval was on some kind of power trip. Sometimes I wonder if some of those "professionals" know they are basically dangling your future and get off on it some kind of way! My advice is just breathe... drink your liquids and visualize. I have a blog on here I started the night before surgery and have posted daily (except yesterday) it has really helped me by putting my thoughts somewhere other than lingering in my gray matter.

I have no doubt everything happens the way it's supposed to, good luck!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
