I was banded on June 25th. I was excited about being banded but since having the procedure must of my excitement has died. Now there's just a lot of fear. All of the "what ifs" are taking over and the constant thought is what if I don't lose the weight or what if I do and I hate my new body because of loose skin. Sheesh. I wanna be positive but it's still a struggle. I had so many bad habits before surgery and they don't just go away with the band. Although I know I can't eat certain things I still crave them. I'm a sweet lover so I'm going through withdrawal in a sense. I just don't know. I'm in search a weird space emotionally and this just isn't what I expected after surgery.

I think that emotional roller coaster you're currently on is pretty normal. I know I went through more than one "oh lordy, what have I done to myself?" moments right after surgery. It can be very overwhelming and battling with sweets withdrawals (or carbonation withdrawals, carbs, etc) only makes it harder.

You're already one step ahead of most by the mere fact you fully realize the band won't change your bad habits or nullify your cravings. I know right now it seems like an impossible uphill battle, but I promise you it does get easier and eventually those battles get a lot more manageable.

Give your mind time to adjust to all the changes. It's ok to feel like you are and it's important to feel and process those emotions. Just don't let yourself wallow in those feelings beyond that point of dealing with them until they ruin your outlook.

You can do this!! :)

I think a alot of us ask ourselves the same questions about what if i dont lose the weight , what if i hate my body afterwards with all the loose skin i might get i would ask you one more question, do u like your body now before u lose the weight ?

It is hard emotionally sometimes and u can have what i used to call bleak weeks, where your outlook in everything is pretty bleak and pessimistic, but another week u may do a lot better, the good days will overtake the bad, and its hard to learn to love yourself again, but totally worth it .. so good luck and things will get better once u get a few more fills and start dropping the weight . :)

I asked myself the same thing at the beginning...You are gonna be fine and before you know it you won't be thinking of anything. Before surgery man I drank sodas Pepsi to be exact all the time and I just couldn't get enough we are talking 4-5 a day. I thought NO way I can go without ...I am happy to say now I don't crave them and I haven't had any since Oct 22. Now if Only I can quit craving other things hehe...Hang in there

I had my surgery on June27th. I know exactly how you feel! All this liquid diet crap is driving me crazy! I figure this part won't go on forever. Us girls have got to stick together! We'll get through it :)

One thing that has helped me in the past week is peeking at the scale. I know I've dropped a few pounds, so that has made it worth it, even if I don't physically see it yet.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
