20 Hours Post Op...feel Good...will It Get Worse?

Recommended Posts

I'm 20 hours out! Im home and feeling pretty good considering I just had surgery! Everything went smoothly and now just walking lots to get rid of these gas pains. Really the only pains I have occasionally.

Those of you already banded, did you find first day was worst? I keep being afraid I feel too good and it will later get bad! Lol

Any tips for this first day? Have been trying to walk walk walk!

My first two days were great!! And the next 5 after that were really tough. It really depends on each individual person. Best of luck!!

I felt I had a pretty simple recovery as well. I was sore but I expected a lot worse. I'm sure everyone heals at different paces but mine was pretty good.

I'm glad to hear that all went well with your surgery and that so far you have had a good post op with discomforts. Hopefully, I will get Banded early August.

Sounds like you're doing great!! Day 3 and 4 were the bad days for me. Terrible gas cramps and left shoulder aching. It's all worth it though!!

Days 3-5 were the absolute worst.

I had a really easy post-op experience. My worst was probably about a week to a week and a half out when the port area started hurting a bit. It wasn't bad, felt like a really bad bruise. I attributed it to the muscle healing around where the port was stitched in.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
