First Doctor's Visit Since Surgery June 13Th

Recommended Posts

Today was my first doctor's visit since surgery June 13th. I had told him I thought I could detect clear liquid in the corner of my port incision so he took a look at my incision and pressed down on it and said yes there is a pocket of clear liquid (he called it something, can't remember) and said it was the size of a ping pong ball and if it opened up and draine to let it and bandage it, if not, that our bodies usually absorb it naturally. I see him again next week for my first fill and to check on this incision. It is making my port incision stick out and I was wondering why it is sticking out. Has anyone else had this happen and what is it called?

thx

Donna

No, Hematoma wasn't the word he used. He said it might leak and it would leak clear and for me to shower as usual and put a band-aid or bandage on it and it may leak a lot. He said he could lance it but then he risks infection where the port is or where the incision is so he said it's best to leave it alone and let it burst on its own or absorb into my body naturally. I know one thing, it sure does hurt for me to bend over when I have on my bra (underwire) and take care of my dog (i.e. putting on her leash each time I take her outside), I may opt to go back to my mom's house for a few days so she can help out taking care of her since I'm so sore there and can't bend over very well. One fact still remains, first 6 days were hell after surgery, but I wouldn't change a thing, wish I had done this years ago!!!

Donna12.. i agree with you. this morning we worked out how much weight id lost in three months... its 35 pounds. that would have been impossible for me any other way.

Talking about that lump you have.... what a nuisance, especially if it limits you with your activities i would let your mum take care of your dog if its still hard for you to do it.

ive got a niece who had lapband done the same time as me. She ended up with a huge lump over her port.. it was as big as a grapefruit and it was oozing. she was put back in hospital, it was lanced and she was given antibiotics via drip. it was a real nuisance for her and did make things miserable for her to start with... so i understand you must feel miserable with it as well.. i hope its fixed real soon.

Thank you Judy about the info your niece, sounds like the same thing. The surgeon did ask if I had had a fever and I told him that I had one the first couple of days after surgery but not one since then. I see him next week for my first fill so I'm sure he will stay on top of things and I will also if things start to feel warm or hot to touch and if I start to run a fever. I may take your advice and go back to my moms for a few days for some help with my dog as she is only 15 months old so stil somewhat a puppy and learning to go out to potty on a leash. Thank goodness she is housetrained and goes outside but it is very hard for me to bend over to put her leash on her because she is a Dashshund and sits so low to the ground. Thanks again.

you're welcome. i know what its like to have a furr baby thats dependant on you... i have one as well. lol. i take her very seriously... to me she is another child and i do for her just the same. I hope that the lump is gone very quickly. you dont need this . just getting over post op and all the changes is enough to contend with. good luck

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
