Period During Surgery?

Recommended Posts

Doc told me I had to stop BC month before surgery. Luckily no period during surgery but they are medical professionals and this is just another part of our anatomy.

I had my period during my lap band surgery. They did not let me wear underwear or a tampon or anything. But when I woke up, they had put a pad between my legs. It was very embarrassing, but I'm sure I wasn't the first one that they had had on the table who was menstrating.

I was right smack in the middle of my cycle for my surgery. I was however allowed a tampon for surgery. I didn't have any problems, but like the others have said, just check with your surgeon.

Good Luck

Thanks to everyone for the replies...I guess every surgeon is different when it comes to BCP. I'm glad that being on a period shouldn't effect anything either! Thanks again!

My surgeon had me stop my bc pills 30 days before surgery and 30 days after due to the risk of blood clots .

I've been planning my band for a LONG time and knew that fertility was increased after and that I did not want to fall pregnant until I was at goal. As I already have 1 BCP baby I didn't trust it after surgery so I got the implanon 4 months ago. Obgyn said it would take 3 months for hormones to settle down and I haven't had a single period yet. Surgery next month, I have a garantee that I won't be bleening for surgery and a very minimal chance of falling pregnant in the next 2 years after. Hopefully enough time to get to goal. Something to consider for those that have time on their side before surgery.

I was on my period when I had my surgery. Surgeon didn't say anything about it.....had the surgery, did fine. I'm not on BCP, so I don't know about those affecting the surgery or medications, sorry. I had no problems.

I want my period already lol. It's been over a year since my last one.. I'm currently 275 and no period yet. I've lost 60lbs,not on birth control. Wonder how much weight everyone's lost before their cycle started again??

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
