Does Everyone Go Through Bandster Hell?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I am going to have surgery July 5th. I have heard a couple of people say they felt some type of restriction with no fill in their band. Can I hear from anyone that has experienced this? I am going through "hell" right now on pre-op and would love to know I have at least a fighting chance of some sort of relief of hunger after surgery.

Thanks,

Lisa

I don't believe they do. A lot of it depends on your mindset and what you are expecting.

I lost weight from the time I had surgery until I hit my goal. I did not feel exceptionally hungry and was able to stick to the guidelines. Yes the 2 weeks of liquid only were a PITA but I got through them. My first fill was at 3 weeks out but it was only 1.5ml. However I found that each fill made enough difference that I could stick to what I should be eating and not be overly hungry.

But I kept reading on here that I would reach this magical place ( in those days it was referred to as "the sweet spot" now more commonly as restriction) where I would be able to eat just 3 tiny meals per day and never be hungry! Wow it sounded amazing. But I never hit that spot so from that point of view I probably did experience bandster hell. I think the reason I didn't hit is was because it doesn't really exist or at least not in the way that it is marketed.

If you have realistic expectations it will make the process easier.

Relief is coming after surgery I think it is a mental restriction after a few weeks you will be fighting your head more than your stomach.

I was banded May 29th. My Dr had me on a 2 week total liquid diet before surgery and 1 week after. I will get me first fill next week. I can honestly say I havent had an appitite at all since surgery.

My Dr put just a little fill in durning my surgery but I dont think that is the reason. Its a time of adjustment & healing after surgery and you may not feel hungry for a while. Its just been in the past couple days Ive begun to feel a little hungry so Im glad my fill is comimg up. Just make sure you sip, sip, sip Water after surgery & you should feel full!

Good luck!!!

Annie

I am 11 weeks post op and have not needed a fill yet. Although I would say I have not been through bandster hell I will say that the first couple of weeks after surgery were the toughest (full liquid for me). Day 3 or 4 seems to be when people start to question what they have done - based on my own experience and from my friends her on LBT. If this happens to you just remember it is very normal and things will get better!

I think it is hard to know if you have restriction until you are allowed to eat mushies or soft foods. Follow your own doctors orders...every doc has their own protocol so listen to yours, ask questions here but always follow up with your own doc! We can give great advice but it is no substitute for your doctors care!

Best of Luck Thursday!!!

I have had some restriction since surgery. Not a lot, and it was a struggle at times because I was hungry often, but I did feel some restriction from the very beginning. It's also important to note I have also counted calories and measured portions since the day I came home from surgery, too. So, I ate like a banded person even when I didn't have good restriction. In my case, I really think it helped me get into the mindset.

Oh I am so glad to hear this! I was starting to fear I would be ravenous after surgery, or a few days after surgery!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
