Tommrow Is My Surgery! Scared!

Recommended Posts

I am 19 years old, am having my surgery at spire hospital in London and I am horrified ! Couldn't even sleep today! I keep having bad thoughts, for example what if my liver hasn't shrunk and they close me back!!! I wasn't on a liquid diet they put me on the low carb one.... Only have to eat 1000 calories for 7 days and I have followed it. BUT haven't lost a pound and I am petrified!! My BMI is 38.... Usually people lose weight on their pre op diets! I haven't! how will I know before surgery my liver shrunk? Will i be ok? Advise please!

You will be fine. I did a liquid diet two days pre op and weighed exactly the same as my first dr appointment two weeks earlier. I was worried about the same thing but I had no problems. Every person is different. Think positive thoughts and try your best to get rest so your body can heal after you get your band.

My doctor didnt even require a pre-op diet. I gained 5 pounds from pre-op appt to surgery date and no one even expressed concern. My dr did say my liver was enlarged after the surgery and that surgery was a good option given the liver condition.

So - my point is - some doctors, center of excellence dr.s - don't even require what yours did and all goes fine.

Best wishes.

I'm getting banded on Tuesday the 3rd of July, and I have the same concerns you do. I have been on a liquid diet for two weeks now and I am not sure if I have lost any weight at all since I'm too heavy for a regular scale. All you can do is tap down the fear and move on. I've been 90% faithful to my liquid diet, I did slip and have a piece of chicken breast a few days ago. I can only hope for the best. I wish you sucess with your procedure....best of luck! :D

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
