Bcbs Of Al?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anyone here has gone through BCBS of Alabama? How long did it take for approval? I still have 2 months before I submit everything, but I am curious to see how long after that ill have to wait. My surgery coordinator said she could get me approved fast after I finish my 6 months and get a 3 year weight history, so my fingers are crossed for that!

It really depends on your plan. It took me two appeals to get mine. But, as soon as I jumped through their last hoop, it only took like two weeks. I gave them a 3 year weight history, and they didn't want it just charted, they wanted the actual dr notes from 3 different years with my weight listed in the notes. Good luck to you!

They need three years of weight history. And the nutrition part has to be done by a licensed nutritionist. They denied mine so now I am waiting for the doctor to have a peer to peer review. I wad supposed to have my surgery in may but I am still waiting.

Which nutrition part are you referring to? I have to have the 3 year weight history (either medical records or written documentation by a Dr.along with photograph) I also have to do a 6 month medically supervised diet, but it doesn't say anything about a nutritionist. Thanks! And good luck, I hope you hear something really soon :D

My doctor does the nutrition classes at his office with a nutritionist. Apparently she was not licensed. I also did classes with my husband with a licensed nutritionist. So we will see if that makes a difference. The insurance said it could not be with the surgeons office and had to be with a licensed nutritionist.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
