Are you suppose to drink Protein Shakes once you start solid foods? My book says not to drink them.

i still have but not all the time. for example i had a fill about ten days ago, and ive needed Protein Drinks since then. i take a long time to recover when i have a fill... thats just me. So.. for these times i have the drinks to make up for any dietary loss. i had to do the same the first time i had a fill as well. Sometimes i may just have a drink of it out of the blue, becuase i enjoy them so much. Also if im in a hurry first thing of a morning and cant sit down long enough to eat Breakfast i will have one then. they do still have their place... just not everyday.

from what i understand, they are ok to help with getting your Protein intake. eating is what we are to do and the band will just curtail how much. i intend to drink one for breakfast and eat my protein throughout the rest of the day.

but if you are concerned, refer to your doctor.

remember, we are eating to nourish.........

At some point pre op, before you began your liquid diet, you should have been given a number of Protein grams to target as necessary to have every day. If you don't know what that number is, you should to find out.

Once we begin to eat solid foods again, we are supposed to rely on our diet to provide the needed protein, but there will be days when that's not doable. That's the reason our protein choices need to be lean and high quality.

The Protein Shake can be used to supplement your protein intake on the days you don't reach your target of protein grams. You will also likely need to return to shakes and a liquid diet for at least a day following a fill.

When I went back to work full time in January it turned out I would have a very early lunch hour so I have a Protein Shake every day either for Breakfast or Lunch. The meal are too close together for me to want real food for both but I also need my Protein to keep me going until dinner time. I asked my doc & he was fine with it as long as I wasn't drinking them because I COULDN'T eat solids.

Only rely on a liquid diet when your doctor tells you to. Otherwise -- as Sojourner said -- they are a great way to supplement Vitamins, minerals, and Protein.< /p>

It is always important to make sure you get everything your body needs, but it is even more tricky -- and at the same time critical -- that you do so when limiting calories. After all, we want to lose the fat, keep the muscle, and be healthy so we can feel great and keep the weight off! :)

would you believe it takes me two weeks to recover from a fill? even just 1cc?? im down on protein and must start making shakes until i can get back to normality again.

It is super important that we all find something that works for us as individuals. Personally, I didn't eat breakfast at all for years. Very unhealthy, I know; but it just made me sick when I did. Having a shake every morning has been a game-changer for me, since I can now get fuel right away to start my day. :)

Thanks everyone. I Tuesday is my first posr-op visit. I am sure they will tell me plenty more and guide. I like the shakes, because they are chocolate. I am use to drining them for breakfast. I know once school starts that is the only way I will get breakfast in, I have to get four kids, and myself ready every morning. I am never hungry in the morning. So, it makes it easy for me.

Not at all, surprisingly! The first few days I was a little timid, but I went for it (since I was at home) and I've been having breakfast ever since! That sounds silly to most people, but it's really exciting for me! :D

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
