Hey bandsters,

Anyone here have experience with the single incision procedure vs. traditional? Which did you have and were you happy with it?

I had six incisions from lap-band. Prior to that I had four incisions from gallbladder surgery. All I can say is I'm glad I'm not of an age that I would ever want to show my tummy in public!!!!!

I'm right there with you, Toddy. I've had so many laparoscopic and laparotomy surgeries, my stomach looks like a road map of scars! When my surgeon was explaining the 5 incisions for lap band, he asked if I would be okay with scars on my abdomen. I laughed, and assured him that this stomach will never be bikini-ready!

I have 5 incisions from Lap Band. 4 of them are very small, look like a small bug bites. The port incision is about 3-4 inches but is less noticible than my gall bladder scar from 23 years ago. I asked about single incision and was told I was to overweight.

I had single incision on June 4 th. Recovery was fine; I actually returned to work 2 days following surgery as I couldn't take additional days off. I was able to function butva third day would have been nice! I was pain free / no discomfort by the end of 2 weeks post op.

I was banded 5/29 and I have 5 incisions--my surgery was done with a robot. Three of the incisions are quite small--1/4 to 1/2"--and the other two are 1" to 1-1/4". Smaller incisions were my preference; quick healing. Felt good and back to work on the following Monday--my surgery was on the previous Tuesday.

Dora, any concerns about the incision/port location being at your pants line? or any concerns for how it might be affected by future pregnancy?

How big is your port site? I had surgery Monday and was very surprised to find mine is around 3 inches. I have six incisions. I had no idea it would be that big. The others are all small

I had single incision & a low profile pot in September. I had a great recovery & no one can see that I've had anything done. It was worth the extra $$$ for me. Now that I'm about 30 lbs from goal, I can feel the port but so far it's not sticking out. If it ends up doing so, I doubt that I'll care! All the best.

I'm going for my pre-op on Jul 10 In Santa Barbara Ca. My doctor will be doing SIL on me. I'm getting anxious to find out when my surgery date is scheduled. I've been dieting with Protein Shakes and a small dinner salad the last 11 days. I will continue dieting until surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
