Band Slipped. Anyone Had Good Or Bad Luck Getting Band Fixed?

Recommended Posts

I had good luck with my band. Lost about 80lbs. My 3rd year it has slipped. I'm in Knoxville, Tn. Dr. Boyce

Did my surgery. I'm a private pay it will be cheaper to have band fixed than to do sleeve. I'm just concerned about what I hear after you get one fixed it is a lot more likely to slip. Has anybody had their

Band fixed for the second time? How did you do?

About 5 mths ago, I began having bad nightly reflux. I took 2 rx meds and 1 otc med and slept propped up on 33sat pillows. I finally went to my doc and got an xray. I had a slip. The dr took out about half of my 10cc fill and let it rest for 4 wks. He then put in 1cc. I still had no restriction so he added another 1cc. I threw up my pills that nite. I finally had restriction again, the problem is the reflux is also back. Im out of the state right now visiting family, so I emailed my nurse yesterday telling her about my severe reflux. Either the slip was never corrected (I shouldve insisted on another xray before they started filling it) or the pill vomiting slipped it again. I have no clue whats going to happen. Its a 6 hr round trip and $160 for each visit, so I'm hoping they figure it out soon.

So yes, i know how you're feeling. Ive never heard, however, that once you have a slip you're more prone to slips in the future. Ill hafta look into that one.

Good luck

Marci

Like marfar about 2 months ago noticed reflux, it got worse and noticed I could gradually start to eat more. I was due for my yearly visit so waited until then. When I got there I did the xray and boy had my band slipped. They had to remove all the Fluid and had to do 2 weeks of steriods and prilosec. The next month was hell. The pain, the reflux and bloating. This past Wednesday July 11th I went in for a lap band revision. The surgery took 4 hrs because of all the damage the slipped band had done. I had to have a nissen done to repair a hiatal hernia. the band had to be taken out and replaced, plus tons of scar tissue had to be removed from my stomach. I was released from the hospital today and am miserable. I don't know that I could go through this again. So my surgeon also did a embrication of the stomach to help prevent slippage again. I have had my band 2 1/2 yrs and lost 90lbs. I have to be on liquids for 4 weeks and we go from there.

My heart goes out to you both. What an awful thing to go through. Please keep us posted. Praying for quick recoveries and an ease up and stop of complications. Will be thinking of you all.

I have had my band for over five years in that time ihave had a couple of complications including a slip band that required surgery that was sucessful. I still have the odd bouts of reflux where i get fill taken out but in all i am really happy with my band and after losing over 40 kilos ( about 80 lbs ) i am so glad i had the band. I am doing things i would have never thought of doing including skydiving.

Like anything the band will have the odd hiccups but don't let it get you down.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
