It's Offical, Its's Coming Out

Recommended Posts

I was having pain when I was eating yesterday. It was like a rock was in my stomach. I was only eating yogurt btw. Called the doctor right away and they had me come in of course. I did the barium swallow and everything seemed to be moving through ok. But the band was sitting at a weird angle. The doctor decided to do a complete decompression and she wants to remove it with in the next month. Now I have to decide if I want to just remove it, remove and have the gastric sleeve, or remove and have bypass.

Oh my! I'm so sorry to hear that! What a decision to make. Just research and think long and hard. At least you have a little bit of time to think.

What is your doctor's reasoning for removing it rather than removing the saline and starting over? Just curious.

She doesn't want to remove the saline and start over because of the angle it is sitting at and the pain I was having. I think this is a good thing. I seemed to have a lot of problems with the band.

Go for the sleeve! It has been easier for me since I had my band removed Monday and the sleeve done. Everyone at some point in their life will need the band removed. It was not meant to be left in anyone for life.

I'm not sure where you're hearing 'most' but I think we all went into this knowing that 'some' do...

My band slipped a couple months ago and I am revising to bypass on August 13. I cannot handle the constant maintenance of the band anymore. I have a feeling I will be so relieved. I should have gone the bypass route the first time around.

Sorry if this information makes you sad but it's true the band is suppose to stay unless there are complications. But Allergan studies that I had the privilege to read since my sister works for Allergan, states sometimes erosion of the band in 7 to 10 years MAY occur. These are lab studies and only lab work. Maybe the nothing is forever is still true. Allergan published medical studies and many many tests were accomplished to get this evidence.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
