Cookbooks/healthy Eating Guides

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

So I really need to find some cookbooks or healthy eating guides to make food a little more interesting for me, even though I can barely eat anything. After almost 4 months of being banded I am getting to the point where I do not even want to eat because I am so bored/ dont know what else to try regarding food. ANY suggestions will help and be very appreciated.

Thanks :-)

I eat a paleo diet (or did until deciding to do the band) and got a cookbook called everyday paleo and it was SO helpful - helped me eat the way I wanted (high Protein, low carb, low fat, mostly everything fresh fresh fresh) and gave me pictures, shopping lists, etc. So there's one suggestion - it opened a whole new world of "gourmet" food I never would've thought I liked. Have you figured out what kind of foods you want to eat and then looked for something specific? I bet Amazon.com or your library has lots of choices too and probably even lap band specific ones...

I love to cook and am CONSTANTLY surfing recipes. Before I got my band adjustment I went on a 3 week vegan diet. I did lose 20 pounds, but after 2 weeks, it got really boring. LOL. My friend is on an 80% 20% paleo. He doesn't need to lose, he is just a workout exercise nut. The 20% being that he likes to go out on weekends and gets carbs from alcohol :/. LOL. I like the paleo idea, and now that I am back to a decent fill level, am going to be focusing on Protein recipes, so will pick up everyday paleo. I also have the challenge of I cook for my elderly father and trying to keep weight on him, and keep it off of me. sheesh.

This is one of my favorite sites to get recipes from for FREE. It has all the nutritional info on it and you can also use the recipe calculator and do your own recipes. I LOVE THIS SITE. Hope this helps.

What is a "Paleo"? Is it the name of a diet? I've seen it on here before but never knew what it was.

Paleo (and please, correct me if I'm wrong, my chiropractor advised me on this!) is basically the "caveman" diet. You eat foods that come from the ground, trees, or animal...basically anything that was available to the cavemen and women before Safeway existed :) I like the philosophy because everything you eat would be more "pure"....not altered by chemicals. I've thought about trying it strictly, but have just been doing protein/fruit/veggies with each meal and it's working great so far.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
