Don't Sell Yourself Short - How Much Have You Really Lost

Recommended Posts

If you had 100 pounds to lose and you lost 80 of those 100 pounds, then you would have lost 80% of your excess weight. In short, take the weight you have lost and divide that number by the total amount of weight that you have/ had to lose. If you have lost more than what you set out to lose, then you have lost more than 100% of your excess weight. Does this help? ;-P

I think that is what I did??? Although I had a typo...I *needed* to lose 68 lbs to get to a normal BMI, I lost 77. I read the Original Post to be asking how much of your total weight have you lost. So that would be the weight I've lost divided by my starting weight...no? I now weigh about 2/3 what I did when I started..another way to look at it! I've lost a third of myself. And 5-6 pants sizes (seven if you count the odd pair of size 6 capri jeans I got last weekend!!). Also 2 ring sizes and a shoe size. Oh, and my pants got longer before I started dropping sizes! A 16" Tiffany heart necklace that was very tight now hangs perfectly.

Woot!!!

:-)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
