I'm only down 15% since surgery May 18th, but I'm so grateful I'm down instead of up 15%!! After a week long plateau I finally broke through yesterday.

Perspective and interpretation is everything...and elcee nailed an excellent point. Looking at the percentage of body weight lost places a better perspective on how successful we are with this journey to date, instead of looking at the number of pounds lost!

There is a difference between total body weight lost and excess weight lost.

I have lost a total of 36.6% of my body weight from all time hight to current weight.

From all time high to current weight I have lost 113% of my excess body weight based on reaching a BMI of less than 25.

Cocoabean, I would think that the value should be a percentage of your excess weight rather than your total weight. I came up with my value by dividing what I have lost by the total amount that I needed to lose in the first place. You have really done well, by the way!

There are many ways of looking at it and percentages can be of various things. I could have started a thread about how much of your excess weight had been lost but I find that a lot harder to determine as then you have to decide what your excess is. Is it simply anything over normal BMI or is it what you consider to be your excess? I could also have started one with what I have lost compared to what I weigh now - that would have given me a figure of 48% of my current weight.

In the end it doesn't matter. The point of this thread was to encourage and make people feel good about themselves and what they have achieved.

But for purposes of consistency lets all use the same calculation in this particular thread - total lost divided by starting weight

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
