newbie to the board

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I just discovered the board. I have had my lapband for about 6 months. I love my surgeon and he did a great job, but, I have been disappointed in it, to be perfectly honest. I thought it was going to be a lot different. It seems like healthy food won't go down but bad foods go down really well. I try to stay away from them of course. I have only lost 35 pounds, which granted I am happy about, and I try not to judge my weight loss against some one else but, it is hard not to. I was told I would really start to see the weight come off after the second adjustment, and since which has been about 6 weeks, I have only lost 5 pounds and that is when I was on the liquids for the first couple days. I am trying to stay optomistic, but I have been really depressed about it

I think you just haven't hit the sweet spot yet in terms of fills.

Hang in there !!!

I am having the same trouble. I had my band in september and have been stuck at 30#. I get pain with meats even if i chew well so i know the band is tight enough, but i tend to nibble on other stuff too often because i dont feel full for long enough. My plan of action is too force more liquids between and lay off the flat diet dr pepper which triggers me to keep snacking.

I hope we can figure this thing out! I want to lose!

I wonder if sodium is what is triggering it. I haven't had a soda since surgery.......Like bread I tell myself I can't have it or something bad will happen (lol) but, I wonder if sodium triggers food cravings. Dr Pepper has alot of sodium. I have been craving nuts like craaazy!!! I think I am going to have to go on a low carb program. Once I weed myself off sugar and carbs I feel I do better at not having cravings. One thing the lap band has done for me.........I notice that I eat most when I am worried about money (or lack of it) Before band I would eat and not even notice I was eating. At least with the band, I have to chew so thoroughly I take notice of how much I eat and when I eat. I guess that is the weakness of the band. It may fix you physically but, not psychologically

Hi Denise, and welcome to the board!

I and many other bandsters can SO relate to the issues you describe. I just had my second fill last week and are pretty much where you are. It's really hard not to go for dessert when dinner was only a couple of bites of something, and it never really seemed to get past the band to the place in my stomach that is really the hungry part. This is a really hard thing to get used to, but I'm confident it will happen for me sooner or later.

In the meantime, I'm thoroughly enjoying my 35-lb loss and smaller clothes! I'm able to fit places I couldn't before, and move in ways I couldn't before. It's a really cool thing!

But the band wasn't a brain operation, as we all know, and I'm definitely struggling with just a few bites being all my body needs. I know it's true, now how do I get my stomach to agree?!?

:rolleyes::P

thank you so much for the support. Sounds like we had the lap band done around the same time. Everyone seems to have adopted fairly well in my support meetings but I still struggle daily

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
