Tippytoes78 1 Posted June 27, 2012 Hello. I am only two weeks into this long journey, and I am quickly learning that it is wreaking havoc on my emotions. Here is what I am currently dealing with: I had my one week post- op checkup last Friday. My doc said that I could move up from liquids only to liquids and chunky (non-creamy) Soups. Chunky soups have bits of solid food, so now that I'm eating it I feel like I am eating too much. I do not break 1000 calories a day, drink my Water, and consume my Protein, but it's all playing games with my mind. How do I know how much to eat with no restriction? What happens if I'm eating too much of the chunky Soup? I'm so worried I am going to do something to my pouch. Any advice?
electronicart 120 Posted June 27, 2012 Its normal to be nervous. The lap band journey is slow and thats okay. You are healing right now and need to take it easy. As long as you eat healthy, get your rest and walk, you are doing great. Soon you will be in the groove of things! Good Luck!
Jim1967 3,569 Posted June 27, 2012 Whoa...I think you need to slow down a bit. This first month is for healing so don't worry about weight loss or getting the appropriate calories to lose. Eat and drink until you feel satisfied and then stop. Make sure you are staying hydrated that is key. Take everything slow and treat your pouch as if it were a newborns stomach and you will be fine. Chances are you have very little saline in your band at this time so I wouldn't worry about damaging your pouch but you have to introduce everything like it was the first time again. You need to start having conversations with your pouch. You have to analyze whether you are actually hungry or your brain is telling you are. Head hunger is a major cause for over eating. 6 TreehouseLady, 2muchfun, nikkib999 and 3 others reacted to this
Mjv013 67 Posted June 27, 2012 The mental part is the toughest. The other suggestions are great. Dont worry to much at this point. You can stretch your pouch when you start eating regular food and over eat on a constant basis. Right now just relax and learn to listen to your body. Once you can tell the difference between real physical hunger and mental, you have won half the battle. Keep up the good work. You will be fine if you follow the rule and listen to your body. 1 Jim1967 reacted to this
maryfran 19 Posted June 27, 2012 Jim1967 is right the first month is for healing and not worring about how much you are eating. Your band will soon tell you. You most likely will also hit what we refer to as "banster hell" until your first fill. With very little to no restriction at this point you will be able to eat most anything once you are cleared to come off of the post-op diet. Do not let your stomach rule listen to your head and remember why you did this in the first place. I am 6 months out over 70 pounds down and have not had a fill yet I have dropped 5 sizes and still moving. Hang in there it will be so worth it. Your emotions will try and play with you just stay strong and lean on everyone on these boards we have all been there..good luck 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
