I'm month and half post op. I had my first fill on June 19. I was down 10lbs. They put in 4.4cc. I weighed today and I'm up 10 lbs. I'm so mad at myself. I don't understand. I drink my Protein and some days I have to make myself eat. We are on vacation right now and I have been walking like crazy. I need help to figure this out. I go back for my 2nd fill on July 17. I'm going to be so embarrassed if I'm up 10 lbs.

It's not uncommon for people to see a little gain during the month after surgery, so don't be so hard on yourself.

Going forward, are you measuring your food? Are you counting calories? Both really help ensure you're eating the right amounts and making good food decisions. I've done both religiously since the day I got home from the hospital and it's really helped a lot.

Best wishes.

Portion control, and getting enough Protein are necessary to maintain weight loss. I know that if I am not getting enough Protein, my weight loss stalls.

Try not to get angry at yourself; the scale will fluctuate. You're doing the right thing to look for the reasons and the solution for the weight gain.

Follow the rules, measure everything, exercise, and the weight will come off...

Best wishes...

Once I was healed I was told to stop drinking Protein shakes. The band is meant to work with solids not liquids. Excluding the 24 hours after a fill.

If you can't eat solids at Breakfast I highly recommend Greek yogurt with a half scoop Protein powder (and splendra to taste). I also recommend measuring lunch and dinner Protein to 3 oz. You will be amazed how little that is; if you don't measure you will over eat.

Proein shakes can be very high in calories it really depends on the brand.

Honk is right. You should be beyond Protein shakes now. You say you can't eat? Why can't you eat? Stuck? No appetite? Something has to have added 10 lbs?

Usually the first 30 days you will lose mostly Water and not fat, unless you have been dieting to the extreme. Have you been consuming carbs and lots of Water? Sounds like you are retaining fluids and I know from experience that the food we eat on vacation is loaded with salt and carbs?

BTW-Walking is a good form of mild exercise but you'll only burn a few hundred calories in one hour if you walk briskly.

I don't really have an appetite. I'm going to start measuring and writing it down. This is my usual day of eating...breakfast- oatmeal 1splenda and spray butter, lunch- Protein Shake, supper-small grilled steak refried Beans with cheese. But I dont measure. And I don't get enough Water. Thanks for all the support.

You will need to increase your animal Protein intake. Unless your doctor tells you to drink Protein drinks, you should find something else like tuna, chicken, salmon, hamburger to replace the drinks. Maybe only 2-4 ozs a meal? Are you on any meds that could cause you to retain fluids?

You say you are on vacation. Are you using a different scale? Sometimes when I walk around I feel Fluid build up in my arms and legs (same with traveling) so you might also just be retaining some extra Water right now.

All the suggestions on here are good. Def make sure you are not starving or your metabolism will slow and try to get in more Water to help flush the potential retention out. You may also be eating more salt if you are eating out most meals. Wait until you are on a normal scale again to weigh yourself and just try to get your mind past it. Worrying will only make it worse. Enjoy your vacation, journal, focus on portions, and Protein and water! No one will judge you if you are up a few pounds.

Firstly u need to bypass this starvation mode thoughts, none of us are anywhere near starvation mode, this would require weeks of sustaianed low calorie intake of around 300 to 400 calories ... given our weights this is just not happeneing.

Honk is right, a lot of Protein Shakes have hidden clories and Protein shakes were designed as a suppliment not Meal Replacement, there are other things out there that replace meals that contain other nutrients for example the Atkins ones :)

Count the calories and exercise and make sure there is a deficit, u will eventually start losing again, other factors could very well be, different scales and some Fluid retention .. maybe from something salty u ate the night before :)

Here in the UK and over in Australia they really dont push protein shakes and we manage fine ...

good luck and dont give up post -op for around 6 weeks can be a strange time weight wise ...

Thank you!! I hate when people start with the whole starvation mode thing.! My surgeon laughed when I spoke of it.!!

My theory ( and it is working well for me) eat when your hungry, have Protein first and let the ban do what it is designed to do..!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
