After surgery have you tried foods you used to eat? I am so nervous I will never get to eat the foods I enjoyed (but only in moderation and if a homemade food, only made with fat free/low fat food)

Heres my worries:

tamales?

enchalidas?

pancakes?

waffles?

Pasta?

rice?

tortillas?

I know some have said it depends on if the person can tolerate it or not... if thats the case do you just have to eat it and find out???

Surgery is Thursday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure you'll be able to eat all those things .. The real question is are those good choices ? You'll be able to eat them is you cut it up very small chew thoroughly and take your time . You will notice that you get full very fast so you prob won't wanna waste a meal time on waffles or things like that it should be on something with substance like meat

I say take it one day at a time! Otherwise you will fail before you begin. I have been fighting my addiction since April 10. I know I can eat foods that I'm not suppose too. Been trying real hard not to. We all have to remember this band is only a tool. It can't do all the work. We have to do whatever it takes. We all know we have to give up some foods. Ask your self ......healthy or fat? I'm choosing healthy. I want to be around for awhile!!!!!

Today for lunch I had a chicken soft taco and a fried shrimp soft taco. Banded 1/26/12, down 61 lbs from 284 now 223. Moderation in all things.

I plan on logging and I have already started looking up healthy alternative recipes for the food I want to eat. I will do all in moderation and hope I make wise choices in the future since my choices in the past have got me no where good :(

Depends od the person. Some people cant tolerate certain foods. Period. I for one, am able to eat almost everything (except pizza crust and pineapple chunks) in moderation. Including tamales, enchiladas, and pancakes ( I can only eat maybe 5the bites of pancakes or waffles). So the sanswe is: depends on the person. Were all different. Ggod luck

Once you are banded and get with the program it's not about the food . For the first time in my life I eat to live not live to eat. We all go through this food grieving thing, a waffle is not that important in the grand scheme of things . You can have one but is it important, if so once in a great while go for it, you might just be surprised how unimportant it is and unappealing it taste..

Yes, I have been able to eat all of the healthy foods which I enjoyed prior to my surgery...there are some which I have no desire to try...like a blueberry muffin or a pecan waffle. The only exception is that I have not yet attempted to eat steak or prime rib.

Since being banded, I have become much more aware of the limited amount of food I can eat before getting full...and I know that we really have to focus on making all of our meals count high in nutrition.

I still prefer lean Protein. I have enjoyed an ounce of rice, but it was brown...and taken a bite of rye bread.

I also tend to be conservative when it comes to experimenting with food; I have no desire to have stuck episodes...and many of the foods which were not healthy from prior to surgery I just don't want anymore.

Best wishes on your journey...

As time goes on you'll be able to eat most of that in moderation.

Me, pancakes, yes, waffles yes, tortilla all the time, rice is a no for me, made my tummy hurt.

I've stayed away from Pasta.

I'm willing to go slow so I don't want my band super tight so I can still eat most foods. If you want your band tight you may have to limit those foods.

Don't worry. Good luck

I am at restriction and can eat more or less whatever I want. I choose to eat healther foods.

I have one pancake a week, but I do eat 2 egg whites and 2 slices turkey bacon first. And I do an hour plus of cardio first.

I can eat waffles I just don't.

I can eat Pasta, rice, tortillas I just don't because they are high in carbs.

The band is not meant to prevent you from enjoying food. food is enjoyable; I think it was created to be enjoyable. Part of this journey is mental and you have to make good food options.

My philosophy is you can eat anything you want but in moderation. I don't deprive myself if I crave something, but you just eat a lot less of it. After awhile of being banded I eat for nutrition. Somedays it is hard to eat a well balanced diet because I am not hungry so that is what I strive to do everyday. Good Luck!!!

Banded 12/11

Weight loss 65lbs

10 more to go

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
