How did you decide on the lap band over gastric? After talking to my PCM I'm still on the fence on the two. I'm 5ft tall and 227 pounds. I've been struggling for 6 years now even more than ever with my weight. How was your recovery and surgery? How much better do you feel after getting the surgery? I need so much help deciding and don't know where to go after getting it narrowed to the two!lol TIA!!! :)

To me the increased risks with a gastric bypass outweighed the faster weight loss u get with a bypass, the band worked for me and i worked for the band, the band requires more input from you and may not help on the head hunger ... I can however have the band removed if i have problems, i get it adjusted when i need to so have on going contact with my doctor and its a much smaller and less risky surgery..

good luck in your decision but only you will know what is right for you ..

i didnt look at anything except the band so im no help with any other kind of wls. i will say this, i had 2 relatives get banded 1 yr ago this month. He is down 100 lbs, she is down about 50. They did so well , with no problems i decided to have lap band too after alot of research and discussions. I did my homework and knew what to expect. I was banded Dec 2011, and felt so well i went Xmas shopping 2 days after surgery and went back to work 7 days after surgery. I've had no problems, Ive followed the rules 95 % of the time, got regular fills and ive gone from 225 lbs to 180, and a chubby old lady looking size 18-1x to a much healthier and attractive size 14/16. (I'm a 53 yr old woman, standing 5'3 inches ) I have lots more energy , sleep better, get tons of nice compliments, and just generally feel better in my own skin. I love my band because it gave me my life back !!!!!!!!!! Hope this helps ! Good luck !!!

I was originally scheduled for Gastric Bypass and canceled at the last minute. I just couldn't rationalize cutting away a part of my stomach and rerouting my intestines when there was a far less risky and reversible procedure available, the Lap-Band. I figured I'd try the Lap-Band first then if for some reason that didn't work, I'd consider the Sleeve or Gastric Bypass.

I'm so glad I canceled that Gastric Bypass surgery and got the Lap-Band. It's by far the best decision I've ever made for myself. I'm very, very happy with my decision.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
