R U a NASCAR Fan...Let's Talk!

Recommended Posts

I haven't seen the movie yet and will probably wait for it to come out on DVD. Something tells me TOM that you are being a bit sarcastic. :) Am I correct? :couch2: If you are, I caution you to tread lightly in mocking NASCAR fans with....

Now I know why NASCAR racing is so dear to the hearts of many of the LBT members.

NASCAR fans are legendary in their loyalty and I'm sure they won't take kindly to you mocking their sport or their fellow fans regardless of their driver. I can speak for myself & my DW for sure...NASCAR is an unparalleled sport with more to offer owners, competitors, and fans than any other sport I've ever known. I am proud to be a NASCAR fan and proud of our driver TONY STEWART a.k.a. SMOKE. You are truly missing out if your not a NASCAR fan. :biggrin1:

With that out of the way, was the movie good? Did you get your money's worth? I hear from reviews that it is worth a few laughs. Is that true? Anyone else see the movie?

BTW TOM, you should watch the race Sat night on TNT at 7PM. Your sure to get some action like you've never seen before. Oh, the big orange car with the Home Depot on the top will be the car to watch (hope I don't have to eat those words :nervous ). Pull your belts tight and LET'S GO RACIN' BOYS!!

I also am not sure if he is being sarcastic or not. But that's ok. It doesn't bother me one way or the other. I used to make fun of people who could sit and watch cars going 'round and 'round for 3 hours, but I know now that there is soooo much more to it, it truly is a great sport. I LOVE how they start each race with an INVOCATION, how great is that! They have not gone all POLITICALLY CORRECT like the rest of the country.

I can't wait to see the movie Talladega Nights, I LOVE Will Ferrell, he is absolutely hilarious!!

How could any true NASCAR fan not have seen the bible of NASCAR racing: “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby”?

As far as watching the race this Saturday, I will put the race down as third choice of things to do in that time slot. Ya see, my son's next door neighbor planted two different varieties of Tomato last weekend and Saturday we (my wonderful bride of 39 years and I) are invited to watch the pots to see which variety is quicker out of the dirt. That's our first choice, but second choice is to go down the block where they are building two brand new homes. The contractor on 144 used Scott's Turf-Builder and the contractor on 152 used Vigoro. We are getting together to see which fertilizer is better. Much money has been bet, but at 3 to one, a good choice is the Vigoro.

If we go to the hot-house for the Tomato shoot-out, I will listen to the race on my radio in the car. Last weekend, I was in the shower and since my shower radio is always tuned to WSTU (home of Republican talk radio), I get the NASCAR races automatically. It was enthralling to hear, “car (vroom-vroom) has taken the lead, but Tony (vroom-vroom) has plenty left”. For a minute I taught it was a political show because they were discussing Bush's popularity or saying something about him being first.

Missy, I agree. I hope they never get politically correct and stay true to their roots. Is a "DA BOMB" something that hits the wall when going around a turn too fast? GO SMOKE!

TOM, you know what I like about you?

NOTHING.

OK, that's a joke. I do like your sense of humor. You may seem a bit off to some, but you make me laugh.

How can a Republican not like racing? Have fun with the tomatoes. Just a little hint to for your neighbor, he may want to plant them sooner in the year. Right now we're enjoying our ripe yummy tomatoes.

We'll be thinking about you during the race. :heh:

Maybe I am mistaken. I thought he said tomatos. I know he bought a whole bunch of grow-lights.:o

Careful, those pots may not be tomatoes. They do use "grow lights" for that wacky weed, you know.

Oh, glad I brought that up. Does anyone realize that drugs are not really a problem in the sport of racing? Another reason to love NASCAR. Someone did get banned from the sport a couple of years ago for testing positive. Can't remember his name.

If driver's smoked pot and then got the munchies, pretty soon they would not be able to fit through the windows.:o

You can't win a race running next to the car.:faint:

Paladin - It was Shane Hmiel.. ( I know this because his dad, Steve is Junior's Spotter and was temporary crew cheif for Junior last year some)...

TOM- I have watched NASCAR since I was a young child and have an extensive family history of dirt track racing. My grandfather raced, my dad raced and has had many drivers over the years. Currently my brother and young cousin race at local dirt tracks every weekend. As a matter of fact, I'll have to catch Richmond on the radio this weekend from the dirt track. Racing is in my family's blood.. I was at a race track at three days old... I have not seen the Ballad of Ricky Bobby because I'm sure that it attempts to make a mockery of the sport that I love. I DO NOT APPRECIATE PEOPLE WHO KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THE SPORT MAKING A MOCKERY OF IT!! (By the way, I am a college educated, professional in the IT Industry).

Just because people enjoy NASCAR, doesn't mean that we are uneducated, beer guzzling, disrespectful idiots! Though I know there are those folks out there... Ever caught a glimpse at the Talladega RV Parking? HE HE!!!!

Also, the comments about watching people drive in circles kill me! Helloo!!! Its about speed, its about precision, its about technology and talent, and drafting and bump drafting and aeorodynamics, and teamwork and engineering and risk and luck.... Heck it has all the makings of a Hollywood Blockbuster action film rolled into one Sunday afternooon! OHHH!! I also fogot, its about money, millions and millions of sponsor money and time! Its the great american past-time! I'll take it over a bunch of over-paid idiot/thugs chasing a ball up and down a court any day!!:clap2:

Tom- Paladin is right, NASCAR is truly a Republican sport (much to the chagrin of this Democrat!!):o NASCAR dads were a rather large part of the demographic that voted your man Bush into office!

Having said that, I hope Dale Jr. can clinch his spot in the top ten this weekend!!

Paladin - I saw another poll on Fox Sports earlier this week that did not make me happy... It had all the top ten contenders listed and people were to vote for who they thought wouldn't make the chase... Guess who got the majority of the votes?! My Man Junior! It was like 70%. EEEK! I hope not! What's up with that? Richmond is statistically his best track!

Missy - I too love that NASCAR, and for that matter almost all racing begins with the invocation and playing of the national anthem! You won't find that in any other sport!

Later race fans! Have a awesome Frday and weekend!

TOM - In addition to the munchies, pot would totally kill their reaction time! It would however make for a lot less fighting and bickering! It would be nothing but giggles and love.. Humm.. maybe we should consider this more! Nah, I would love to see a good old fashioned NASCAR brawl aka the Alabama Gang and Cale Yarborough in the seventies/eighties! Now that is a classic! If all the drivers were smoking pot, they would be wayyy to mello!

What's more important?

The Driver

The Car

I DO NOT APPRECIATE PEOPLE WHO KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THE SPORT MAKING A MOCKERY OF IT!

I only watched the movie. I neither wrote it, filmed it nor made any money of it.

I wonder how much money NASCAR made from it?

NASCAR racing serves an important function. How else would the fans know what products they need except by watching a bunch of glorified billboards driving around the track?:o

TOM - I just have to wonder about your even posting to the NASCAR thread... You obviously don't support NASCAR, so did you just come to this thread for a debate and to make fun of NASCAR and its fans? This is a light hearted thread where NASCAR FANS come to discuss our favorite drivers, the Chase, the RACES. We are not here to debate (at least I'm not) over NASCAR and politics, the assumed social ignorance of us southerners, etc. If I have misinterpreted your intention, I apologize... But I don't think that is the case.

Missy - I hope those people that voted that Junior won't make it aren't psychic! He He! It would really stink for him to not make it,again!

It really sucked that they left Jeff's lugnuts loose, I think it would have been a great race between him and Kasey!

I was being as light hearted as possible. I saw a funny movie about NASCAR and I thought I might add a little humor to this thread. Maybe, some people take this too seriously. I was not insulting Jesus Christ, you know or even the President of the USA. I was being playful.

TOM

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
