I got my lapband in May 2010. Didn't have an issue til few days ago. My band is at 10cc, it's the max I'm gonna go. Any tighter and I'll be in deep doo. My primary doctor put me on Iron pills. I've been taking them twice a day as instructed. I developed serious heart burn with nausea and vomiting. I couldn't tolerate Water without all the gurgling in my chest. I went to my surgeon and after a fluourscopy, it was determined that my pills were sitting in the esophagus digesting. Too big to go through the band. (though I didn't think they were big, I was able to swallow them!) I was so irritated, I felt raw. It didn't occur to me to crush my pills. If you are reading this and your light bulb has come on, be sure that your pills are crushable, because there are some that are not crushable.

I've gone to all liquid options, with the exception of my tiny bp bill and thyroid pill, because I was getting nervous about them getting stuck. I drink a liquid MVI every morning with liquid drops of B and D Vitamins. It taste horrible on its own so I mix it with about 1 cup of Bolthouse Farms juice (low cal, pure juice, no additives). Vitamins in pill for are WAY too big, besides the fact that they make me nauseated.

Pills can also be cut, instead of crushed. Right after my surgery, I did have to crush my pills, as several were not available in other forms such as chewable and liquid. The taste was unbelievably bitter, enough to make me gag a number of times.

You have to use your best judgment with knowing the size of the pills you can tolerate. Cutting them is better than crushing them, if that's an option for you.

My nutitionist said that the gummies would not provide me enough of what I need post op.

I did find a chewable formulated for band. Here's where I bought them on Amazon. I bought my Protein Powder here too but my hospital pharmacy carried the powder (unjury) $4 cheaper.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
