I wondered if you get sick and have to vomit,do you lose your calories?

Some, depending on the state of digestion...but you also lose enamel from your teeth and the lining from your esophagus, so anything you can do to avoid having to throw up regularly is good, I would say. :P

I try to read ingredients, but I am super bad at that when I am super hungry, so some times I end up with traces of things I am allergic to. Yick. :/

Don't go there. By trying to figure that out, you're sliding a slippery slope to bulimia. Plus, vomiting isn't good with the band and can lead to slips, so all the more reason to avoid it at all costs,

Just count your calories as normal whether it comes back up or not, It's simply safer and smarter.

If you do vomit you don't generally feel like eating again afterwards anyway. I would count the calories as though they were eaten and if that means you end up with a slight deficit and it causes a little extra weight loss great. Just don't get into the habit of making yourself vomit, it is dysfunctional behaviour and can lead to all sorts of unwanted and expensive complications.

Do your best to try to avoid vomiting...check dates on everything, and only eat at places where you know they have high standards for cleanliness. This might not be the best time to experiment with new foods either...

Also, it is best to give your stomach/pouch a rest of several hours before trying to eat again. You need to be careful not to allow yourself to become dehydrated...I ended up in the hospital due to severe dehydration when I did not recognize the symptoms for it.

Ok- a little fact check here. If food gets stuck in your band and you PB, which feels just like vomiting, then there is no stomach acid mixed with the food so there is no damage to your teeth. You can mess up your band if you vomit a lot, right after you have surgery, but it's not that easy to do. I PB at least 3-4 times a week due mostly to getting distracted while eating, or sometimes, I'm just tighter than I realize. Also I let myself get too hungry and then I'm wolfing down food. I've had my band for over 4 years and my innards are fine as are my teeth. I don't plan it but when you're just living life it happens.

Cordelia,

I PB'd about 3-4 times a week also, for the last 2 1/2 yrs. A couple of months ago, my band slipped. Now I've gained about 8 lbs after they had to unfill me. My doc says it's from "vomiting". So, it is that easy to do sometimes. Granted I made it 2 1/2 yrs, I wish I could have gone forever! Good luck to you!

I concur with marfar7. I got so sick too often that I developed severe gastritis, some sort of gastrointestinal infection with off the chart white blood cell counts, had the most awful bout with reflux and finally had to have a full cc of Fluid drained so that I could have some relief. Being so sick during the Christmas holidays, I lost 10 lbs within a 2 week period and it wasn't a if I'm a newbie. I was banded 4 years ago. I'm finally healed from that episode and am so very anxious to see my dr in 2 weeks for a full. Unfortunately, I've gained about 15 lbs since then due to a pretty lax restriction. Take your time eating, chew thoroughly and don't even think about what happens if you throw up. Trust me you don't want to go there.

Nadekusibe - PBing is Productive Burping. It's when you regurgitate food that became stuck. It is different to actual vomiting, even though it results in food coming back out via your mouth!

Neither are pleasant and both are best avoided with a lapband.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
