blpchick 50 Posted June 25, 2012 I'm going for my first fill in a couple hours and I'm nervous...does it hurt? Whats it feel like??
kmt1973 92 Posted June 25, 2012 I thought it would when I seen that big ole needle. They numb you first and that burns a little. I didn't feel the big fill needle at all. It was over in like 25 seconds. Good luck
Savannah26 26 Posted June 25, 2012 It does not hurt - at all!!! My doctor does not use any numbing medicine either - which freaked me out when I heard that. I have a huge needle phobia. However, it was so easy. My doctor has me put my hands behind my head and pull my head up, which tightens your stomach so he can feel the port. He locates it and puts the needle in, sometimes he has to wiggle it a little to hit the port - none of it hurts, I promise. He will extract a little Fluid to ensure he is in the port, then pushes it all back in. It takes less than a minute - no biggie. Good luck - let me know how you do. Savannah26 26 Posted June 25, 2012 I don't think my last entry actually posted, so this may be duplicated. Anyway, NO it doesn't hurt - at all. My doctor doesn't use any numbing medicine either, which freaked me out because I have a huge needle phobia. He has me lay down on the table and put my hands behind my head, then lift my head up, which tightens the stomach, making it easy to find the port. He locates the port, puts the needle in and extracts a little Fluid to ensure he is in the port, then pushes it all back in. Easy and less than a minute - no biggie. By the way, if they offer numbing medicine, I wouldn't take it - that's two sticks and the numbing medicine burns. It's not bad at all. Good luck - let me know how it goes. Short and Chunky 230 Posted June 25, 2012 Fills do not hurt and I am big baby when it comes to needles. My doctor does not use numbing meds ..he locates the port with his fingers and then puts the needle in, withdraws some Fluid and then puts the fill in - poof - done - I get a superman bandaid and out the door. No pain. Now, the post-fill diet - yuck - back to liquids, then mush, then soft but other than that, no big deal. Good luck with your fill. 80'sgirl 0 Posted June 25, 2012 It doesn't hurt, I would rather have this done than to go to the Dentist! I even had too much filled and had to have some taken out (all in the same visit) it wasn't painful.
blpchick 50 Posted June 25, 2012 So I just got back from my surgeon and getting the fill and it was nothing he didn't numb me but I still didn't feel it except the strange kinda "crunch" feeling lol I guess that's how to describe it

Jackie's girl 32 Posted June 26, 2012 I got mine today and it hurt because my port moves and turns, so it took 6 sticks to get it in the right place. Of course when that needle is in your flesh instead of the port it hurts like crazy. Hope my port does not flip because they had hard time accessing it. LoozQuoils 22 Posted June 26, 2012 I had my first fill yesterday and it was an odd experience. Not painful but a "stab in the dark" type of thing. What was actually scar tissue was thought to be my port so for about 40 minutes, the nurse was poking around my scar tissue and had me lifting my head and legs up every 5 seconds (which is hilarious in hindsight). Finally another nurse came in and found the actual port site and gave me a 4cc fill. Everything is ok now but while I was in the office I had my doubts.
