For your band??

I see absolutely no reason for this. First of all I would NEVER wear one, I am not open about my surgery and 99% regret getting it. People say for the no blind NG tube placement. All NG tubes I've seen (at least in animal medicine) are very flexible and I don't see any reason they can negatively effect the band. No NSAIDs, well if you're unconscious they are not going to be giving you anything orally and that is the only way you shouldn't take NSAID's. (though my doc has no problems with me taking them). So why else? Odds are before they do anything they will do an x-ray and then they will see the band. Not to mention my port is very easily felt and actually when I lie flat on my back I can see a bump under my skin.

While I'm not prepared to wear one either, there actually is very good reason for wearing one. If you are ever unconscious and they have to put a tube into your stomach (like for pumping your stomach), they could accidentally puncture the stomach by not realizing the band is there and in their way.

Also, if you are unconscious and need abdominal surgery, the surgeon needs to know because again, you risk your tubing, port, or even band itself being damaged and by default damaging you too.

For your band??

Yes, Mis73 pretty much answered why my doctor says to have one.

Thank you Mis73

I am thinking about just ordering the id part and making my own bead work so I can have several different styles at an affordable cost.

I would think you could order them through a jewelry store, Walmart, or via mail with a form from a pharmacy.

You can also find cute ones on Etsy. handmade too.

I have a sticker on the back of my drivers license that says I have the band and goes into the restrictions if there is an emergency.

The link I put up you can just get the charm and have whatever put on it. They have beaded ones as well or you can go to Michaels and get your own beads to do as you wish.

Some individuals have a secondary health condition and that is a wise move to list medications etc. Which I do have a secondary not related to weight.

I am toying with the idea of getting one because my spouse might not be there in the event they had to slide something inside my body. I did tell him make sure if something happens and I am out of it to tell them I have a band.

But when things are happening medically not everyone is thinking correctly.

Even drug allergies can warrant an id Bracelet. I know several people allergic to drugs with Sulfa in them.. one person I know had his heart stop twice just out of the blue within 72 hours in the hospital because they administered a drug with Sulfa in it.

It is a personal choice

This is what I have for my diabetes. Not sure I want to tattoo lap band on me.

post-314812-13813140130689_thumb.jpg

Will you always be a diabetic with your band? I have read that some people will no longer have diabetes and such after the band and proper diet... Just wondering. I totally agree not to tattoo LAP BAND on my arm because it can not be forever. My wrists are already taken by tattoo anyway, but really neat idea. I think I am going to order my ID from here and have all my details on the back with my name on the front or maybe just the medical symbol.

Unfortunately I will always have diabetes because I have type 1. My pancreas will never make insulin. I have had diabetes since I was 10.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
