I've read that the food eventually will get digested enough to pass through... but the biggest fears are damaging the suture that holds the band in place if one vomits, or ending up stuck long enough to become dehydrated! I got stuck on a Friday and went to the dr's office for a quick unfill/fill since I didn't want to risk a run to ER on the weekend. If someone is getting stuck or vomiting on a regular basis, I'd wonder if the band is a bit too tight?

My Achilles heel is a Wakeup Wrap from Dunkin Donuts... the combination of the wrap and sausage pattie are instant problems--that is one of the few foods that is a guaranteed problem for me! Or, if eat too fast and forget to chew I get a quick wakeup call... not fun!

Well I would not force yourself to throw up. However sometimes when I have something stuck all I have to do it lean over the toilet and it comes right how. Whatever you do don’t drink, it always makes it worse for me. Walk around as much as you can maybe it will move it?

How do you know when the food has gone through. I've had my band in for 4 years now and had the normal eating too quickly, throwing up, sliming, and Pb. But it always passes within a couple of hours.

But last night I got a mega stuck......I was starving after being in accident and emergency for 6 hours with my daughter, and ate to quickly when I got home. I threw up really renching. But it still feels as though its there. Water is going down but I can hear it gurggling going down. I've got an appointment on the 2nd Jan. Hope that's not too late.

I'm not sure if I've just renched my throat and its sore from last night. A bit scared to try and eat at present.

I am 88 years old and am thinking of getting my band removed. My band was installed on 8/2008. In the beginning no problems but now I wind up in ER for removal of stuck food. I think the band has shifted over the years as I just completed an upper GI series, and my esophagus looked okay. Now wondering about the risk at my age. I will discuss with my cardiologist. So sorry to hear so many have had problems with the band. that is why they no longer recommend it. If you can have it removed to avoid trips to the ER All the best to you all. Herb

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
