JanellesMommy8210 8 Posted June 25, 2012 A coworker of mines told me she heard on the news that Lap-Band adjustments are causing death and complications with the band? Has anyone else heard this. I have 3.75 CCs in a standard 10cc band. No restriction but down 34 pounds since surgery 3/28/12.

DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! 12,703 Posted June 25, 2012 It's complete crap and untrue. The Lap-Band was made to be filled. Only 8.6% of Lap-band patients have complications and the only risk of complication after a fill is if you walk around with your band too tight for weeks and end up with a slip. Not death. Your friend I'm sure has good intentions but has no idea what they're talking about.
Jess55 97 Posted June 25, 2012 Well, technically they can if you think about it. I guess not totally directly, but still. If you get filled to tight this can lead to vomiting which can cause slippage. Or it can also cause erosion due to the chronic pressure on the stomach. Which I'm wondering now if that can happen without fills too.
honk 780 Posted June 25, 2012 I don't think you can get a slip with no fills. Before fills the band is just sitting on the outside of the stomach doing nothing. I do think having a too tight band will lead to complications.
