No Food For Two Weeks After Surgery?

Recommended Posts

I Feel a little on my own about this subject and possibly misguided. I was banded last Monday the 18th and had to do three weeks liquid diet before. Ok, I get that part, even though from what I've been reading, that seems like a lot longer than most other people. So originally I was told one week liquid after surgery, that I also get. On the day of surgery though, i was then told no mushie foods until my post op appointment which is July 3, over two weeks after surgery. At first I was just like ok, two more weeks of liquids, I survived three what's two more. Now it's the end of week one and I feel like I could scream I'm so tired of carnation instant Breakfast and strained cream soups! Does this seem right to everyone? I feel like I should call the doctors to make sure I'm understanding it all correctly!!!

I couldn't have mushies until 4 weeks after surgery, so that was a month of liquids.

It sucks be we all go through it and survive it. Just stick to your doctor's orders because right now proper healing is the most important thing.

I was on liquids for a month after surgery. Two weeks clear, then two weeks normal followed by two or three weeks of mushies. Every dr is different. The key thing is to follow YOUR dr rules, especially at this time.

I had 1 week clear liquids (plus Protein shakes) and then 1 week full liquids (plus Protein shakes). I was not allowed thin mushies (yogurt) until week 3.

I would recommend whey isolate Protein shakes. They are much higher in protein than CIB. Premier brand from costco and Sams is very good. Muscle Milk light is also a good premade (make sure to get light though).

As to smooth Soups have you tried Tomato or sweet red pepper. I used to add Mrs. Dash non salt flavorings to te Soup before heating to up the flavor.

All perfectly normal.

The standard here in Aus is 2 weeks liquid plus a few low carb veggies for the 2 weeks preop. Then 1 day Clear Liquids post op, followed by 2 weeks full liquids, 2 weeks mushy and then 2 weeks soft before finally going back to normal foods. Its a PITA and at the time it's hard but you can do it , the same as the rest of us did. And although we might like to think the diet is designed purely to torture us it's not, it's is designed to maximise the healing process and to allow the band to settle into place.

Well I do feel so much better to hear its normal! Everyone else I asked around here who had it done didn't remember having to have to do it that long, main reason I felt like I misunderstood or something! So I appreciate all of the responses! Of course I'll be sticking with my dr orders, a little easier now though now that I know I'm not alone in the long waiting period after surgery!! :)

All surgeon's have diferent variations of diets for their patients. Mine had me on 2 weeks liquid before. After surgery, I was on clear for 1 week, and full liqiuds for 2 weeks. Then on musheies for 2 weeks. i did not go back to regular foods until at least 5 weeks, maybe longer. when my son had his surgery, the nutritionist advised him that cottage cheese goes in the regular food diet and not mushies as it takes alot to digest it. Hang in there, most of us have endured the post op. Remember you are in the healing stage, the less work your band has to do now, during healing, the better for your stomach. Good luck ,stay strong, best wishes. Karen

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
