I Promised I would post the good & day. Yesterday & today hadn't been so good. 3 weeks post op & my body feels good but my mind is in I'm hungry mode. It feels like I've been eating non-stop. Some of it is real hunger & some of it is just my mind. I don't think I've allowed myself to feel hungry at all this weekend. I was craving chocolate so i bought some choc covered raisins. I thought that was a better choice. The bag is empty as of tonight. Yep! So I'm just gonna put it out there & keep it movin.

Honesty with myself is the best policy. I tried tracking my food but it's really hard for me b/c I'm not quite sure how much I'm eating. I might have 2 bits of meat. No clue how to track that...I'm also not sure how many calories I should eat. My doc said to eat until I'm comfortable & stop. He didn't want to complicate the process so advised to work on making the band my friend & not count calories

So the last 2 days have been a eating fest. Small portions but non-stop fullness.

So that's my bad 3 weeks post op...

Hope everyone is doing well

I am not a doctor but I disagree with the advice you were giving. During bandster hell you will be hungry and if you don't know how much you are eating you don't know if you are physically hungry or not. My doctor says to eat 3 oz of solid Protein at lunch and dinner; and then eat low fat/cal veggies until full. food scales can be found for $20 at Walmart/Target.

Oz & calories are different. They did give me the oz rule but not sure how many calories it equals. I do measure by oz when home but I don't carry a scale around with me. Guess I'm not in banister hell yet so don't know what that is like.

On My Fitness Pal you can track with ounces. It's really easy. Usually everything is by serving so if you weigh 4 ounces of meat it will tell you how many servings that is. Good luck! Don't give up. I'm about 2 weeks out.

When you're at home, you need to measure your food to get a feel for how much to eat. No more than 1 cup of food per meal (total). If you're still hungry after it's gone, you have to just white knuckle it and wait it out. It gets a lot easier once you have a couple fills but until then it's all on your willpower.

By measuring at home, you will get a much better idea of how much to eat by sight when going out to eat, too from seeing it all the time at home. It will also allow you to track your calories because you know how much you're eating, too.

I would strongly suggest meeting with a nutrionist so you know how much to eat, what to eat, and what not to eat.

Good luck.

Sure sounds like Bandster Hell to me? Bandster Hell definition: The surgeon puts very little saline in your band at surgery because the next 30 days are a time of healing so the less saline, the less restriction. Usually 2-3 weeks out you seem to be very hungry, and for some of us, hungrier than pre surgery. There may not be any restriction so the bandster can eat as they did before surgery. And unless he/she can find a way to eat nutritious food and stay away from candy you will gain weight.

For me, BH lasted 4 months until fill #3 gave me some restriction. I lost 12 lbs the first 2 weeks and not a pound gained or lost the next 4 months.

Now is a time for you to start to learn how to eat with the band. Start by making better food choices. Food scales are inexpensive, buy one. 4 oz of chicken would fit in the palm of your hand. Go online and sign up for myfitnesspal and track your food. If you don't track this stuff or understand food measurements you could be in big trouble.

The band is a tool but it requires a lot of work and understanding on your part.

I've been eating regular food for 2 weeks. I know what to eat & just had a bad weekend. I think saying I was eating but didn't feel hungry means it's all in my mind. Im ommitted to admitting the good days & bad. I measure my food & eat no more than 1cup. This weekend was a challenge that's all. I'm in it for the long haul.

Thanks for the fitness pal tip. I think mine is set to cups.

Thanks tmf...doing my fitness pal setting now. The funny thing is I wasn't hungry I was just eating a little all damn day. It's my brain not my band. Just wanted to recognize it out loud. No denial here. Full disclosure for myself.

I get it. I'm the cook in the house and it's so hard not to graze while I'm preparing dinner.

I always graze when cooking lol but i use a teaspoon and so whatever i graze on is only a small amount..

The trick is lovemythreems to not buy naughty food u cannot eat it then, if u really cant do without a naughty food , find something that isnt high calorie, plain dark chocholate will solve the craving but not be so calorie laden :) .. best is obviously to try and avoid cravings, but i was always told if u are going to cheat then make sure its only a small cheat.. I had to count calories, having to lose so much weight there was no way i could do it any other way .. but thats just me .. :)

This is so true. I'm grazing, but I'm grazing on cucumbers, radishes, grape tomatoes maybe a small bite of cold chicken(large bites anger the she-band).

I know it's gong to happen and I admire your honesty......not sure I could put it out there bc ppl tend to tell you what u already know as far as it being a bad choice..sometimes u just vent and don't really need lectures. Positive encouragement is what we need when we mess it up and have a food break down lol:) good luck!!!

A little off topic but doncha just hate those little kids selling the $1 chocolate bars at the entrance to the grocery store. They're so cute and it's for a good cause(soccer, cheerleading, scouts, etc) and I love chocolate and want to help them so I always buy one

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
