smellslikecoffee 43 Posted June 24, 2012 I just got my gallbladder removed yesterday, holy hell! I panicked in the recovery room because it was my first ever surgery. The anesthesiologist had to give me a shot to calm me down. I've never been in more pain! I have 4 incisions, and a HUGE bruise on my belly from the blood thinner shot...then my doctor put me immediately on my liquid diet and I'll be banded in a month! If it's this painful idk what I'll do!! Anyone else been they this surgery then a month later an other surgery! I'm happy to be banded, but I'm such a baby!! sharonk 23 Posted June 24, 2012 Why didnt they just do both surgeries at the same time?
indyhandmade 43 Posted June 25, 2012 I had both surgeries done at the same time. I do feel like I am experiencing more pain than the average bandster.
smellslikecoffee 43 Posted June 25, 2012 My doctor said I'd have a higher chance of infection, if I did both at once...I didn't have any gallbladder pain but a huge stone, so they just decided to take it out so ur wouldn't give me problems after I got banded..did you have yours done at the same time?? smilinginside 16 Posted June 25, 2012 i had mine out 2 months before surgery a little discomfort and pain but nothing compared to having gallbladder attacks lol
honk 780 Posted June 25, 2012 My doctor will not do both at the same time. This pain is nothing compared to bad gall bladder attackes TRUST ME. I had mine out at 19 after loosing a hundred pounds. Mine was done as a open surgery so I have about a 5 inch scar; which by the way is much more noticeabe than my port scar.
Sojourner 2,446 Posted June 25, 2012 It seems to me that only 1 month between surgeries is a bit too soon. I had to have abdominal surgery unrelated to the band before I could have the band surgery. My bariatric surgeon would not schedule my pre op appointment until the other surgeon gave his medical clearance, which he did at 3 months post op for my first surgery. He told me at the time that 3 months time between surgeries was the standard he followed to allow for proper healing. Hope you feel better soon!
adorkbl 156 Posted June 25, 2012 I had my gallbladder removed about 7 months after banding. It hurt waaaay worse than banding did. After Lapband surgery I never took pain meds, I was grocery shopping and cooking the next day, and one day 3 I was flying home. No problems. Gallbladder surgery I expected the same. Easy breazy. Not so much. I was in some pain. Actually took pain meds for a few days. Hang in there!! Banding for me was easier.
