This is normal. I gained a few pounds secondary to the extra swelling and gas during the first week. My physician also told me not to expect weight loss for at least four weeks (or until you introduce regular foods). Hang in there and give it time. Your body needs to focus on healing right now.

The first 4-6 weeks after surgery are for healing not losing. For now, concentrate on following the doctor's orders and the post op diet. Losing will come later.

In the meantime, do try to make sure what you're drinking is good for you. If you're drinking say, loads of fruit juice, you may as well be drinking pure sugar. I know it's hard when on the liquids stage because choices are so limited already, but if you can try to make healthy choices even now it'll help you in the future.

just a warning. when you get to mushies and soft foods the scale may go up as well. dont be ready to jump off the cliff like i was. it is perfectly normal. we werent made to survive off liquids only so your body is gonna be confused and start holding on to food cuz you've been on liquids. dont panic it's normal. like the above poster said the first 4-5 weeks are about healing not weight loss. be patient( and trust me i know how hard that is), but this is a journey not a race..best wishes on your journey

I agree about looking at your food choices. For full liquids choice a Tomato vs a cream Soup. When you get to mushies mix the tuna with low fat laughing cow instead of mayo. No fruit juice. When making Protein shakes during this time don't add fruit or Peanut Butter (yes PB has Protein but not that much considering the levels' of fat.

Many people gain weight from the fluids injected during surgery; and it takes a while for that to go away.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
