Hi All, I have been reading the site for awhile and have decided to join. I started my process in Sept. 2011 and my surgery is scheduled for July 3rd. My insurance required that I do a 6 month diet which at first I didn't want to do this but now I am thankful for doing it. I am currently on a 15 day pre-op diet of Protein Shakes. I am excited to have my surgery. I enjoy reading all the comments and suggestions. Is there anyone else that is having surgery in July?

Hi There!

I am in Illinois as well, south suburbs of Chicago. I am just now starting my journey and have to do the 6 month diet as well. How did that go for you? Any tips? I am more scared of the liquid diet than anything. I guess just have to take it one day at a time. What kind of Protein shakes do you make? I want to start on them now so I get used to them. This is a great way to lean on each other, glad u joined and can't wait to follow your journey!!

WELCOME! :)

Ashley

It has taken me awhile to figure out how to use this site. Thanks to all that responded to me. Aschap13....I have been a picky eater all my life so the 6 mos. diet was hard at first. I ate a lot of yogurt and chicken. I also allowed myself one treat which was ice cream (skinny cow). I am a huge sweet eater. It helped talking to the dietian (sp). The shakes started out bad for me. I mixed the powder with Water and it was really bad. I figured out if you mix yogurt, powder, fruit and water....they can actually be good. I used frozen pineapples, strawberries and blueberries. Do you live in the Rockford area?

Once you make the decision to do this the time flies quick. Is your surgeon in Rockford? Good luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
