Yes it DOES get better----slowly. Usually it take from 1-6 months to get your band properly adjusted. It's a slow process. Most doctors take their time filling the band (cause it's the safest way to do it). So don't expect that as soon as you get a fill you'll be fine, cause most likely you will need SEVERAL fills to get good restriction and that takes a while. Just be as patient as you can be, watch what u eat, and remember it's a process! Good Luck

Can you request an earlier date? All they can say is no.

I hated bandster hell but I have to admit I learned a lot about my eating habits and how my band reacts to certain foods.

I had my 3rd full on 6/20. I now have 4.5cc and I feel as though I may have approached the green zone. I've lost 2.5 lbs this week and have successfully pushed away healthy choices at a Mexican food restaurant and Chinese food with my hubby. I do have a PBR tonight when I thought I was eating very slowly and chewing my food to superfine consistency... But I guess I wasn't slow enough.

Bandster Hell sucks but stick with it. Use that time to get a good exercise regimen started and stick with the rules. It's tough, I questioned the money I spent on the surgery through that process but now that I've reached a point where I want to make healthy decisions and don't need to eat as much to feel full, I'm reminded that it is with it.

Stick with it and log your food!

Thanks everyone! My Dr is very strict to wait 6 weeks for fill after surgery so I will wait..i can say that soft bread hurts my belly..cant eat it even with no fill! Chest starts hurting and feel so sick if I eat it!

Please remember the band is not meant to prevent you from eating anything. It's to help you eat less of things. You will still need will power to turn down cake, ice cream, or even pizza.< /p>

I still eat pizza but it is one piece of thin crust instead a 3 pieces of thick crust.

But that might change with more restriction.

I can still eat pizza and I feel that I'm at proper restriction. I can eat a small meal and do not get hungry for 4-5 hours. I get stuck if I don't chew thoroughly.

I think my idea of restriction I'd a lot looser than others, as I wanted the band for hunger/portion control and not for restricting the types of food I can eat.

Its a personal choice for everyone as to what they eat, and with restriction the band will help with how much you eat. If u are happy to take a chance u might put on weight or lose but very slowly before u hit the green zone then u can carry on eating bread/ processed foods or junk foods like pizza . To me its food like that that got most people to the point where they needed a band .. Isnt it like thinking its ok for an alcoholic to have a small drink each day ?

Some of you of course will be able to eat some junk food and not have any effects at all, but for others if u are gaining weight and dont want to then u need to change something like your diet or exercise till u can rely on the band a little more :).

Only a few people are lucky enough to eat everyday food including junk food in smaller portions and still lose weight, but for the most of us those junk and processed foods need to be eliminated from our food intake in order to lose weight .

I had my surgery the 18th of June and just want to start getting better the incisions opened two of them. The Dr put sterile strips has anyone else had this issue? And how long did it take for your incisions to heal?

What do you mean the incisions opened two of them?

I had my Surgery June 18th as well and my Doctor only waits 3 weeks to do a fill...but he also said if I ever wake up one morning and feel starved like I could eat a house then its time for the fill

Yes I had 5 incisions total and the Dr put dermabond on all of them. When I woke up post op day 2 two of them were opened. I see the Dr on the 6/26/12 so all they put were steri strips until then. As for my first fill my next appt is after the post op is 7/24/12 I think that's when I would get it. Anyone else has had this happen?

      Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

        We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.


        This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.


        Compassion goes a long way :)

        Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

      Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

        I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
