What Is Your Experience With Taking Pills?

Recommended Posts

I have 1 pill I need to take. It is an extended release pill and cannot be broken. It is fairly small - about the size of 1/2 of a Pezz candy. What has your experience been with taking pills during first few days of recovery?

I know if it's small pill I'm okay. Big ones like big Vitamins I wouldn't advise. I would suggest taking it later in the day (when your band is generally looser).

I am not sure u should be taking even small pills being so early in the healing process .. maybe ask your doctor what they say, i would say its a medical opinion that needed here :)

I had no problems taking pills, but I did speak to my doc specifically about them and got permission. I'd check with your doc. Also, I'm not sure we can take extended release meds with the band. Definitely another question for your doc.

I take vitamines and I have a pretty large pill that is time release but it is a solid tablet.

In the morning I take chewable vit C and Acidophilus (no problem there)

I then take a Vitamin D which is not that big. Drink Fluid to help push it through...

Same if I have to take advil or something in between I take one a a time and wash it through.

THe kicker is the big one I take.. I take in in the afternoon usually between 4p-5p, plenty of time after I have eaten and an hour or two prior to eating dinner.

I get it down and I have 7cc in my band which is a 10cc band. I drink Fluid before then drink drink drink after to make sure it washed down but I do not guzzle the Water. You can also drink a hot beverage to help the band release slightly. I cannot break it open, or crush it, it has to be taken whole and there is no liquid version of it. It is about the same size as a Centrum Multivitamin.

But I do not suggest to take first thing in the morning.. take it when you and the band are woken up..and between meals... good luck..

I was told not to take large pills, but one day my head hurt so bad I had to take tylenol & I could only find the pills, I took them one at a time & they went down fine. My nurse said my birth control pill is small enough to take, so I'm sure yours will go down fine

Do not do this without talking to your dr!Some time release pain meds would cause you to over dose!My dr took me off the extended release and put me on 4 doses daily instead.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
