Go with Dr. Rumbaut....yes, I would agree with the other gal that said she would write this 1000 times......I would write it a MILLION times.

He is WONDERFUL and so is his staff. The hospital is incredible.

My mom had surgery the same day I did and we keep saying how incredible the hospital was as far as cleanliness and attentiveness.

I believe this entire U.S. versus Mexico surgery is political. The U.S. doctors are losing their revenue and are saying negative things because they are losing business to the highly qualified doctors in Mexico.

Again, GO WITH DR. RUMBAUT!

Quite honestly, I'm admittedly NOT a fan of the idea of going to Mexico for Lap Band surgery.

However, having said that -

Go with Dr. Rumbaut. Go with Dr. Rumbaut. Go with Dr. Rumbaut
;)

Exactly.

Most experience, best reputation, internationally respected, great facility, Banded himself, handsome and charming with great patient manner.

It's no contest. He's the ONLY surgeon in Mexico that I would consider. It is absolutely not even close. If you're going to Mexico, go with Rumbaut. Period.

Happy Band Journeys to all...

I was banded by Dr. Arturo Rodriguez in Monterrey, Mexico and would say the same about him. Google him and you can see his qualifications and such. Great bedside manner and attentive staff. I highly recommend him to anyone seeking WLS outside of the STates. :clap2:

Hi Seminole,

You mentioned that you are looking to get your surgery done in the middle of May. I have already scheduled my surgery with Dr. Rodriguez in Monterrey on May 17. I have been doing research on the doctors and prices for several months now, and Dr. Rod definately has MORE than enough qualifications and experience in the lap-band field and the price is very competitive. Did you ever make your decision?

Hi Seminole, this is Aracely Gonzalez, Dr. Felipe Cantu´s Assistant, here in Reynosa, Mexico, just 3-4 hrs away from Monterrey, he offers the lap-band surgery at a low price of $8,300 dlls, which includes everything, transportation, hotel stay, hospital, surgical room, surgical team, medicine for pain, psichological consultation with Dr. García. You would be here in Reynosa for 3-4 days, that´s less than a week!!! And what´s the best thing is that he offers discounts!!!! He uses the only FDA approved gastric band, which is tha same that doctors in New York, L.A., and other important cities in the states, use. It is minimally invasive, surgery only takes 30 minutes, and is done laparoscopically, he makes 5 small 3-5 mm incisions, and that same day you start off walking, and the next day your off from the hospital. Think about it, for more information you call at our toll free number: 1 888 520-0924 and (210) 568-9415, or may visit our web site: www.advancedoctors.com

I wish that all assistants or patient coordinators would identify themselves as such when they respond to someone's question. When I am looking for "objective" opinions about a doctor, I don't really want someone who works for that doctor telling me how good that doctor is. Aracely, you weren't being totally upfront in your first message, in your message to wannaB. When I first read it I thought it sounded like an ad and wondered if you were working for Dr. Cantu. Then later you said that you were Dr. Cantu's assistant. To me, that's just plain advertising on this board.

"Hi wannaB, I know a doctor here in Reynosa, Mexico(2-3 hrs. away from Monterrey), he offers the lap-band for $8,300, he includes everything, since your arrival to his office until your departure home. What i know is that this is a package price, and he includes transportation, hotel stay(Holiday Inn) for 3 nights, he uses the only lap-band approved by the FDA, and he is the only one certified to do this kind of procedure, here in Reynosa. The package includes hopsital room, surgical room, surgical team, medicine, and everything, in other words, worry free package. How do I know this, because a friend of mine got banded by this doctor, whose name is Dr. Felipe Cantu, assisted by Dr. Henry Mansur, both certified by the American Society for Bariatric Surgery, what I know is that both have a vast experience, and years of training. What I know is that he does the fills in Reynosa, or he can help you find a doctor near you, who does the refills. If you are interested in knowing more about Dr. Cantu please let me know. And one question, where are you from? He might even give you a discount...

In a later message to seminole, you said:

"Hi Seminole, this is Aracely Gonzalez, Dr. Felipe Cantu´s Assistant, here in Reynosa, Mexico,"

It just hit me the wrong way. How can we make an objective decision if we get advertisements? Not good.

Hi everyone,

I just got back from having surgery in Monterrey last Thursday. My Doc was Dr. Rumbaut and I would recommend him to anyone. His people, the hospital and the facilities are excellent. I was very nervous about going to Mexico but everything went fine, even better than I expected. I, too, went with Dr. Rumbaut because of his experience and his reputation. I was not disappointed. And he is very cute and charming too!

As per guidelines set up when we all joined this forum, there is to be NO advertisement or solicitation of any specific Doctor, Clinic, hospital, center, etc.

Please refrain from the kinds of posts listed here on this thread from occurring again. This is a support forum not a place to increase patient population for a specific Doctor, Clinic, Hospital, Center, etc.

Wow Tellymelly Your Doing Great....how Did You Lose So Much That Fast? Still On Liquids?

Hey and thanks Seminole for the compliment.

I am currently still on liquids and per my doctors recommendations. Dr. Rumbaut stated that 3 weeks of liquids will give the tissue around the band, time enough to scar well. He said it takes approximately 1 good month for this to happen. I don't want adhesions or slipping issues therefore I am holding out. Being on a full liquid diet is not as bad as I thought. I do have hunger issues for food, only when I cook for my family though.

I started at 240lbs, and I lost 8lbs before I went to the Bahamas on 4/5/06 - 04/09/06 and gained 3lbs back:faint: . Then in Mexico, I weighed in at 235lbs, so I lost really only 5lbs.

Crazy thing though, from 4/10/06 (weigh in day at pre-ops) I was 235 and when I got home on 4/14/06 I weighed 226lbs. I lost 9lbs, that was 2.25lbs per day ;) . My scale is new. I actually bought a $40.00 scale and bought a commercial digital scale that goes up to 300lbs. Both were accurate.

Since I've been home, I've lost an additional 7lbs, (haven't weighed myself in a few days, wanna wait till Tuesday, April 25th, tomorrow - my 2 week anniversary.) I hope I lost more.

I was also told that it's normal to lose alot of weight the first few weeks to a month, but I am working my ass off too.

I bike an average of 10miles per day. Some days 7 miles, other's 12 - 15. I walk a minimum of 2 miles per day.

In the morning I walk 2 miles on my treadmill and in the evening, around 5pm, I set out on my bike and go. I can get 12 miles done in 1 hour and 5 min. I try to race the dark :)

I have my Spiru-tein shakes and dannon light yogurt drinks and a bunch of Water. (Always on the toilet)

This is how I'm doing it. I hope this helps you.

Hi Penni60, I am still in the deciding phase, so I appreciate the experiences of these "bandsters". I want to make sure I am not putting my life in the hands of a nut. I understand about not advertising, but personal experience is ok, isn't it?

Needed the doctor info

Pam

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
