Bad Experience Already :(

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I just got my band on Monday 6/18/12 but I already went through a bad experience. On Tuesday, I felt that I was going to die because I had a bad chest pain and then started vomitting. I vomitted all day Tuesday so called Dr and was told to go back for a check up. Well the problem was that the band was too small and completely shut so I had to go through surgery on Wed 6/20/12 again to get a larger band. I do feel much better but now I feel as if it is not tight enough because I don't feel full. Is that normal?

So sorry for that! Glad it was quickly resolved. I have a 14 cc (large) band too.

Yes, it's normal to not feel tight enough- that i called bandster hell- the time between surgery and however many fills you need to be tight enough to feel restriction. You will be on a willpower, white knuckle diet for awhile- and there's not a specific number of fills that gets you to the green zone.

So hang in there, glad you're not vomiting! and just remember how it works- first phase is surgery, second is getting adjusted (fills), third is losing weight and then 4th is maintenance!

Absolutely .. just concentrate on healing and following the doctors guidelines and hopefully all will be ok for you :)

I am soooo sorry you had to go through that - I can't even imagine if they wanted to touch me after surgery last Friday.

My understanding from my doctor is that you don't necessarily "feel full" but satisfied. You may want to just check with your doctor.

Best of luck to you.

I am glad you feel better and I am sorry you went through that! But I gotta say, that sounds like a major boo boo on the doctors part. I am not sure I would feel comfortable under his care with that kind of mistake.

You just got your band and should be on liquids so you wouldn't feel full. You probably aren't going to feel restriction for quite a while. At least a few fills. Your previous band was too small so that's the only reason you felt "full."

Don't get discouraged you'll get there eventually.

How horrible! It is completely normal not to feel the band. You should not feel the band in general. It took me 6 months to get restriction. So While it seems like you've taken a step back you really have not.

Terrible to read of your experience...I don't recall reading about this from other;s prior experience. I felt a minimal restriction immediately from day one, and as the healing progressed the sense of feeling that the band was there went away also.

So glad that you are feeling better, and now the real healing and journey begins!

So sorry about your experience thus far!! Hope you have smooth sailing from now on. It is normal not to feel restriction. You have no fill, you are fresh out of surgery, you are healing. You may not notice it until you actually have fill. You may notice it when you transition to solid foods.

You are probably more aware of the lack of feeling restriction because you were too tight and squeezed shut so early in the game.

Hang in there. ;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
