My Saga Following My Slip And Fills....

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I'm 2 1/2 yrs post op. I've lost 104 lbs. Almost to goal. Almost. About 5 mths ago, I started having really bad nite reflux. So bad I was consuming a handful of rx pills + OTC pills every nite all the while sitting up to sleep. And I was still coughing up stomach acid all nite. I emailed the nurse at my drs office and she told me it sounded like a slip. I was afraid of going in for fear they'd take out my band and I'd gain all my weight back. But my husband made me go. They did the xray and indeed, it was a slip. They took out about 1/2 of my 10cc fill (in a 14cc band) and let me go for 3 weeks to refill again. He said he would put all of it back in there if the slip had fixed itself. Thank God.

When I went in last week, I found that I gained 5 lbs. I'm eating like a moose. And the dr actually saw me, not his PA that took my fill out and promised me he'd fill it back up again. And he said no, that he would only do 1cc at a time. It hasn't been working. So I called the drs office yesterday to see when I could come in for another (6 hrs round trip/ $160 per fill). I was told 4-6 weeks! Wow. My clothes won't fit me by then. I emailed the nurse yesterday and told her of my crisis (which she understand, having gone thru it herself) and she got me in next week! After only 2 weeks between fills. I'm going to CA for 2 weeks on the 1st and wanted it before then. I'm kinda hoping to see the PA that unfilled me so that I can get more (he's more aggresive than the MD) than 1cc put in. I tolerated 10cc before. And I've gained another 3 lbs.

To those who have been unfilled then filled again: Does it take just as long to get the right adjustment as it took the first time? It took 5 mths to get the right amt in there for me to lose. I hope it doesn't take that long this time. Does it mean that I will be good at 10cc again, or do the amts differ since I had a slip?

Just needed to get that off my chest. I now officially have 18 lbs to goal. And I've given all my jumbo clothes away so I absolutely can't afford to gain anymore. I hope I get filled to the brim next week!

Marci

I am newer, but from my reading around it seems as if when you are getting refilled, the cc amount to restriction is different due to the band sitting differently. Good luck to you!

On any unfill a doctor will not put back what he took out, even if its only a few weeks earlier u had the unfill. They will not take the chance to make u stick again and will therefore proceed cautiously.

My doctor is great with fills i can go anytime to him but when i had a 1 cc removed because of being too tight he would only put back 0.25 each time i went .. i am glad of his caution and if u are going away the last thing u would need is to ruin that trip by being too tight again or starting the night reflux again .. if you have a slipped band before the last thing u want to do is chance it happeneing again and being too tight will increase the chances as once it has slipped u must be even more cautious to avoid it happening again.

You are lucky in some sense as some doctors try to resolve a slipped band by removing all the fill and u having to go on liquids for a few weeks :) be patient a few lbs on the scale is worth putting up with versus having more problems with your band..

good luclk !

I feel you marfar7! I had a slip and had to have a revision in the hospital to adjust my band. It started back in Oct(almost 2 years from lpbd anniversary). I have 5 cc in my band now and surgeon says that is all I can tolerate. He has tried 2x to get more in, but watching with barium swallow it doesn't pass. So I have gained 10-15 lbs and have to wear size 10s instead of my 8s. I am now on a diet to loose the extra weight as I have to control myself. I admit that I cheated because we all know that sliders are easy and excessive calories. He has advised me to stay uner 1200 calories to loose and 1400 to stay the same. Best wishes, I hope that you can fidn teh answer you are looking for!!!!Karen
