Food Addiction But Still Sucessful?

Recommended Posts

I have been bulimic (30 years ago) & then just a binger & got bigger & bigger. Lost 100 lbs twice. It seemed like I was either in a good cycle or a bad one. Part of that may have been because I have also struggled with depression. Therapy has been a big help for me. I'm now down to where I was the last time I lost weight & stayed at this weight 5 years. I'm slightly concerned that this is my set point. However' date=' I know if I up the exercise I will go lower. The hunger is diminished so I'm basically dealing with head hunger but only once or twice a month. Good luck![/quote']

I found it interesting that after taking one of those "surveys" that therapists use to diagnose disorders in the DSM 4 I qualify as Bulimic even though I have been heavy since birth. Apparently, because I binge eat, I am Bulimic just without the throwing up part.

I am an ice cream addict. And I apparently was a bit of a binge eater. I didn't realize that I was a binge eater until I read the definition on an OE website recently. The lab band stopped the binge eating. I can't physically do it anymore. I really truly believe the 70 pound loss I have maintained over the years was from binge eating.

Then I realized, ****, I am still addicted to ice cream and sugar and the band does not do a damn thing to stop that. That is ALL me. I decided I didn't want to deal with that for awhile and I stalemated. Then I got real again a few months ago and have been losing again.

I think it is 50/50 for me right now. The band does help, A LOT. I can't overeat. It makes it easier for me to step back and focus with the head hunger and addiction for the ice cream and sweets. Do I slip up? Sure. But it is easier to get back on track.

I am still working towards my goal. I have hope for making it. I didn't have that before the band.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
