My oh my, sometimes it's all I can do to push my own butt out of the couch and go for a bike ride or workout in the gym. But I do, I gotta.

When you do something for 30 days it become a habit. Believe it or not you can and will get to a point where if you miss a work out you get very grumpy.

I totally agree. I find it hard NOT to go work out! My trainer/instructer is trying to get me to back off a tiny bit because I keep straining my knee. She told me if you tear your ACL you're not gonna be able to workout for like 6 months and then even the dogs (I am an LVT) will be cowering in the back of the cage because you'll be a cranky b***h. I found this hilarious, but she's right, I would be. I have to force myself to take one day off a week, but she says I keep hurting myself since I really don't give my muscles a chance to recover.

You don't have to go to the gym to get your exercise in. In fact, I have not set foot in the gym and have lost 62kg. The most successful exercise routine is the one that you enjoy because you will keep on doing them. For me, that is cycling, dancing, walking and swimming.

Good luck on finding an exercise that you enjoy.

Find something you like to do. Nothing is more boring to me like walking on a treadmill. I found Jazzercise to be the key to my weightloss success. I look forward to going 4-5 times a week. Last year I joined a gym and particpated in all the classes. Zumba, cardio kickboxing ,cardio dance etc. I really enjoyed the classes and it kept me focus. Good luck!

If someone told me 3 years ago that one day I would love running long distance 18 plus miles I would have called them a liar lol. For me it has been amazing to see my body transform going from barely being able to walk a block to running up to 18 miles at a time has been empowering! That being said I could not have done it without plenty of Gods grace.

One more thing I want to mention I agree with the above posters who said you don't need to go to the gym to workout every movement counts just make a conscious decision to get up and move around every 30 min even if it's to unload the dishwasher check the mail so on.

You don't have to go to the gym. You can work out on your own but that don't work for me. I have a complete gym in my house that is rarely used. I also have a bunch of dvd's. I need to work out with other people. I loved the comradery at the gym. I rather do Zumba at the gym then alone at home. Find something that you like to do and try a few classes. First, I started with Zumba and was encouraged to do other classes. I have fun while excersing. The important think is to keep moving. A body at rest stays at rest. A body in motion stays in motion. So get to moving.

I know the feeling but I was at a plateau with fills. The first two weeks of gym are hell if you go that route. After those two weeks, something happens, your mind will crave the weight loss and renewed energy. My gym is close and I go from 8:30-9:30 for a quick power workout and cardio. I hated it at first...stair climbers have tightened my butt and legs and made my heart stronger. It's a live hate relationship:()

I'm trying to get myself into a good habit now prior to surgery, and it's like pulling teeth :) I am not a fan of working out, I hate being sweaty, but I love the euphoric post workout feeling... I've put it off for a couple of months because I was working out after work, on my way home, and I'd find excuses not to go (usually I had too much stuff to do at home, etc). Last week I tweaked my work schedule and I've started going prior to work. I had to buy myself a desk fan for my cubicle to help with the sweat (no showers at Curves, boo hoo!), but it seems to be working. I joined Curves in April and have been a total of 13 times... 7 of which were this month (5 were last week). So, I'm going to stick with that for sure. I only get off of work half an hour later than I usually would, so it's not so bad. I hope you find something tolerable as well! Good luck :)

We live a good 30 mins from town and I have kids, so the gym is out of the question. I have a treadclimber, that usually holds my laundry, zumba, and play in the pool with the kids.

I have not been dicipline enough to make it a habit, but I have found that playing with the kids burns calories.

As important as exercise is, it's absolutely untrue that you cannot have results without it. as a matter of fact, unless you work out hours a day, you won't get much weight loss from it. I work out about 5 hours a week at high intensity and end up burning about 2250 a week, which isn't even a pound. You would have to do vigorous exercise for 7 hours a week in order to lose even a lb. Harvard Medical actually did a study that shows it doesn't contribute significantly to weight loss.

I exercise so I will feel better and to make my heart and lungs stronger, as it does not help me lose weight at all. I went 3 weeks not working out b/c of an injury and lost the same amount I always do, .5 lbs per week. I always average that much, even in weeks where I have worked out 9-10 hours in the week.

I'd like to see that study? I tried to google it and only got studies that contradict your statement.

I'm not trying to argue with you but 2250 per week is about 3 lbs per month. Most bandsters only lose 4-6 lbs a month so this loss of "fat" would account for more than 50% of our fat loss. Your post seems to contradict most every study or weight loss guru opinion I've ever read. Although I do agree that you don't need exercise to lose weight. I just believe that a good diet and a strong exercise program are essential to long lasting and effective weight loss.

I'm glad your plan works for you but for me and most people I've ever known it would be a no go.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
