Ok, I called BCBS IL and was told that the papers were received yesterday, 6-20-12, for review and approval! I am freaking out! I am sooooo tired of this overweight ride that I can jump off and puke! First I was waiting to finish the testings and waiting for results. Next came the waiting for the doctor to review the folder and submit to the insurance company. Now, I'm biting my nails waiting for approval. OMG! I nervous and I'm scared and I'm excited all at the same time. Should I call back tomorrow and see if it's approve? The CSR told me that they will mail me a approved or denied letter, I can't wait for snail mail! Ok, I'm going to wait until next Tuesday, 6-26-12. #omgnervous.com

I know the feeling! Fortunately I found out that it was actually sent to insurance the day before I left the country for a week or I would have called daily!! :) I came home to the good news. I have Anthem BC in Ca and it took them 7 days to approve but 11 to let my docs know. So I'd call maybe in a few days!

I have BCBS Anthem... It took them a week to approve. I would give them at least a week. I was that person that called every other day and only became more discouraged every time they said no.

I also have BCBS of Illinois. I did not talk to the insurance company as it was all done through my surgeon's office. The paperwork was submitted on 1/27/12 and the patient advocate, from my surgeon's office, called me on 1/31/12 to say that BCBS of IL would only consider approval if I went on a 6 month medically supervised diet before the surgery. I cried but of course, agreed. I then got a call the next day, from the PA saying that BCBS of IL called them and said as of 2/1/12 the medically restricted diet was no longer a required part of the process. Whew. Great. They said the paperwork would be looked over and we should expect a response within the week. A week goes by and no response so the PA calls and is informed that there was some additional information needed. The information was provided and I had my approval within 3 days. I felt like I was on an emotional roller coaster. I had to wait until 5/23/12 to be banded because of my work schedule and overall have been really pleased with BCBS of IL. Just make sure all of your t's are crossed and your i's are dotted. I wish you well.

I have Care First insurance. My doctors office told me that they would find out before i would find out through the mail. So i am hoping that once my paperwork is submitted i will hear something quicker than having to wait for mail :(

But they also said it usually takes up to a week to find out something! I wish you luck

I called 6 days after submitted. UHC said it was pending. I called every day and was told today it was approved. It pays to keep on it. Otherwise I would have waited for snail mail. My papers were submitted on the 14th. Approved today! Doesn't hurt to call.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
