Advice From Banders 1 Year Plus Please!

Recommended Posts

I havent been on here for a while. I was banded Jan 2012 Since

then I have lost a total of 35lb. Which dont get me wrong I think

is fantastic (I could never have done that on my own)

My question to other banders is does this seem a fair amount to loose

in 4 1/2 months ??? I do understand everybody looses weight at

different rates but I just didnt want to be too impatient but then

dont want to get annoyed either as its coming off and I never gain.

Just looking for someone's advice with a little more experience of the band

than I have.

Claire

First of all, congrats on what you have done so far. 35 pounds is great and is more than zero.

Secondly, we do all lose at different rates. If you were smaller (say, under 250 pounds when you started) then you are going to lose more slowly than someone who is around 300 pounds. The heavier you are, the more weight you tend to lose in the beginning.

I don't kow what your starting weight was, but the majority of people here seem to start somewhere between 250ish to 315ish. 35lbs at around 6 months out for a relatively low BMI seems right to me.

Banded 8-3-10 sounds like you are right on track and doing great with your lose. My lose after surgery was a bit slower do to the fact my port flipped before i even got my first fill :( but had that redone in january 2010 and its been all good since then . Everyone will lose at a different rate i started out at 242 i just last month hit goal so some of us it takes a little longer . On the upside of slower weight loss gives your skin and body time to adjust to the loss as your losing . Hang in there and keep up the good work :)

Claire - you are doing great. 35 pounds is a good number and at a good pace. You didn't get heavy overnight and you don't want to loose it overnight. As said before, it gives you skin and body a chance to catch up and it is not as hard on your Gallbladder either. Remember what you were told 1-2 pounds per week (average). I was banded 7-7-11 (almost a year). I have lost 97 pounds. I started at 268...I was told to count on this taking me 1 1/2 - 2 years and that seems about right. You will have some set backs (we all do) and thing will plateau and slow and then off you go again. Hang in there and enjoy the ride down.

I think you are doing great. Everyone has their own time table for losing weight. I think it is usually 2 lbs a week. I lost slower. If you want to make sure you do have sucess. Do not cheat. Just in the program and make it a lifetime change. Before you know it ~~the lost weight will be a thing of the past....10lbs = 1 dress size. best wishes. Ilene

hi i was banded just a few weeks before you were (December) and im down a very happy 44 lbs. My Dr is very happy with my progress, says this is the best way to do it , averageing 1-1.5lbs a week. (Im on my 6th fill) i have occasional plateaus but nothing im not expecting. This part may not work for everyone, but i keep a daily weight diary. I dont worry about a 2 lb weight gain as i put it down to digestion, hormones, Water weight etc, but if i gain more then 2 lbs i can easily look on Myfitnesspal .com and see what ive been eating, exercising etc. This has been a huge help for me, plus the weight diary visualy shows me how my weight is going, usually down .....down....down......... Just when i think i havent lost any weight i look back on my weight diary and can see " Oh wait a minute, ive lost 3 lbs in 2 weeks ! Um .......im ok with that !" This helps. alot. Good luck to you !!!

Thank you all for your comments I am feeling a bit better about it today.

I have spoken to my dietician and she is over the moon with my progress

do I guess I need to keep chipping away at the weight.

Like some of you say It didnt go on overnight so It wont come off that way either.

Thanks again.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
